At The Foot & Ankle Center of South Texas - A Division of The Orthopaedic Specialists of South Texas, Dr. Casillas and his staff provide comprehensive and specialized care from conditions caused by work and sports related injuries, fractures, deformities, congenital defects and disease processes. We treat the complete range of musculoskeletal disorders, diseases and injuries to the foot and ankle, with the highest quality of orthopaedic, medical and surgical care available in the areas of reconstruction and arthroscopic surgery.
Dr. Mark Casillas is a San Antonio native and a graduate of Central Catholic High School, St. Mary’s University and School of Medicine at University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio. He completed his orthopaedic surgery residency in Memphis, Tennessee at the prestigious Campbell Clinic.
His post-graduate orthopaedic training included a geographically and anatomically varied experience, starting with an AO fellowship under the guidance of Professor Doctor Rheinhold Ganz at the Inselspital in Bern, Switzerland. This fellowship focused on conservative hip surgery but included an extensive exposure to the center’s expertise in trauma surgery and internal fixation.
This was followed by the opportunity to participate in the United Kingdom’s National Health Service as an honorary consultant, which involved visiting and lecturing at several hospitals across England. A fellowship at Italy’s Ospedale Generale Provinciale, Lecco completed his European experience. Directed by Chief of the Ilizarov Center, Dr. Maurizio Catagni, this fellowship enabled Dr. Casillas to visit hospitals in Milan, Rome, and Bologna.
His first focused foot and ankle experience took place in Cape Town, South Africa under the guidance of Dr. Tony Mullins, the regional foot and ankle specialist. Dr. Casillas concluded his eighteen-month fellowship in California with a six-month fellowship directed by Dr. Roger Mann, the recognized orthopaedic foot and ankle authority.
Dr. Casillas has lectured across the United States and has published a collection of book chapters and journal articles. Most notable are the chapter written in DeLee and Drez’s Orthopaedic Sports Medicine, and the chapters co-written with Dr. Mann in Garret’s Principles and Practice of Orthopaedic Sports Medicine, and Chapman’s Orthopaedic Surgery.
