Dr. Malawer is an excellent orthopedic surgeon, and I am forever grateful that he operated on my knee. I appreciate that we are from different cultures, but coming from Australia, I found his consultations somewhat abrupt when I saw him 3 years ago. More recently his responses to my email consultations have been detailed and timely.

Dr. Malawer is one of the lead developers of the field of orthopedic oncology since the late 1970s until the present. He has received many national and International honors for surgical expertise and clinical research. Published over 80 major peer- review articles as well as the senior author for the major textbook in this field; Musculoskeletal Cancer Surgery,Treatment of Sarcomas and Allied Diseases.
The Doctor is also a Professor (Clinical Scholar) of Orthopedic Surgery at Georgetown University, Consultant Surgery and Pediatric Branch, National Cancer Institute and senior orthopedic oncology surgeon at the Washington Cancer Institute.Previously, Orthopedic Oncologist the the Children's National Medical Center and Consultant at Walter Reed and Betheda Medical Centers for Orthopedic Oncology
Major inventor and co-developer of a system of bone and joint implants for the reconstruction following cancer surgery for the upper and lower extremities in order to avoid amputations. The MRS (Modular Replacement System) was developed in conjunction with Howmedica, Pfizer Inc and later with Stryker Orthopedics. This system is the gold standard for segmental replacement of large bony defects in the world. It is utilized in the US, Europe, Mid East and Asia (especially China and Japan).
