I bring extensive experience to clinical encounters and build empathic bridges as a foundation of trust. I believe that persons who are in pain or confused already have an intuitive sense of how they need to change and what help they need in order to heal. I use an individualized approach in clarifying that intuition, their experiences, and treatment goals. Flexible use of appropriate, available resources is a hallmark of my practice, for example, encouraging attendance at 12-step or support groups, and community education events. Based on my advanced practice psychiatric nursing experience in acute care settings, I appreciate the importance of attending to physical as well as mental health and spiritual needs, and collaborate closely with primary and other specialist providers.
As a nursing educator for over 20 years, I developed and/or implemented the psychiatric nurse practitioner program at two universities. I optimize teachable moments in psychotherapy to enhance understanding about all aspects of mental health. Although I am certified as both a psychiatric nurse practitioner and a clinical nurse specialist, I chose not to prescribe medications personally since my forte is psychotherapy. I work closely, however, with patients, their concerned families, and prescribers around medication issues. I use psychoanalytic, interpersonal, and unitary nursing science principles in conducting therapy.
I have a special interest in women’s mental health, resolving couples’ impasses, and in helping family members who have a loved one with mental illness. Hope is intention made conscious.
I am Board Certified as an Adult Psychiatric Clinical Nurse Specialist by the American Nurses’ Credentialing Center, a Certified Addictions Nurse by the Addictions Nurses’ Certification

This therapist helped me dig and after I lost all that mattered-my marriage, my job and my home to addiction and deep despair. In baby steps she helped me find my bootstraps & feel as if life is worth living again. Just maybe I will make it.
