Dr. Mazher Sheikh is known as a leader in the fields of cardiology and internal medicine. Serving the Woodbridge area, he and his staff are caring, professional, and thorough. Dr. Sheikh very much enjoys the academic side of medicine, as it gives him the opportunity to think critically and innovate. He has held editorial roles with the American Heart Journal and the American Journal of Cardiology, and he has also presented nearly 20 papers at clinical meetings. His leadership roles stretch even further back, with a nearly 15 year stint as Director of Georgetown Cardiology Section at DC General Hospital.
Before he rose to the heights of his field, Dr. Sheikh attended medical school at Dow Medical College in Karachi. He came to the states for his internship at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady, NY, and was pulled toward Washington for his residency in internal medicine at the DC General Hospital. He also completed an intensive two-year fellowship in cardiology at the same prestigious location. Dr. Sheikh dove right into teaching with multiple Instructor and Clinical Professorship positions. Dr. Sheikh continues his hard work for patients suffering from cardiac disorders as a fellow of the American College of Cardiology. He is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine to treat Cardiovascular Disease (Internal Medicine), and he has won such awards as Doctor of the Year from DC General Hospital, in 1990. His involvement doesn’t stop there; he is also a diplomat of the American Board of Internal Medicine and the American Board of Cardiology.
Dr. Sheikh loves to spend his off-time with his wife and three children. He welcomes patients from all sorts of backgrounds, including speakers of English, Spanish, Hindi, Urdu, and Punjabi. He stays engaged with his profession through associations like the American College of Physicians and the American Federation of Clinical Research.
