A native of Kentucky, Melissa Counihan is a graduate of the University of Virginia and holds a B.S. in biomedical engineering. After receiving her medical degree from the University of Kentucky, she completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Emory University.
During medical school, Dr. Counihan was named to two national medical honor societies, Alpha Omega Alpha and Gold Humanism. She also received the Louise Perkins McHenry Award for demonstrating superior judgment, interest and proficiency in the care of women.
She has been a frequent presenter at medical meetings at Emory University and has conducted extensive research on various biomedical and health topics.
Dr. Counihan joined Peachtree Women’s Specialists in 2014 and provides a full range of obstetric and gynecologic care to women of all ages.

I really enjoyed the office. The staff was warm and friendly--always smiling. I also like that Dr. Counihan was very knowledgeable, and went into detail about my concerns. I feel comfortable going here which is in stark contrast to my last GYN. I also appreciate the fact that she works out of two offices, so my visits are convenient.

I went in as a new patient and immediately I was warmly welcomed by the desk staff. When I was called back, the nurse who helped me was also very nice. Dr. Counihan was fantastic! The check up was quick and painless and she took some time answer all my questions about birth control options. These kinds of appointments can leave you feeling a little vulnerable and everyone at this office did a wonderful job of erasing apprehensions and nerves!

A+. It was my first time at this office, and I was running late due to elevator problems in the parking garage plus the unexpected construction on Collier. Going to the gynecologist is always stressful to begin with, but I left feeling fantastic. Dr. Counihan is wonderful! She was friendly and knowledgable, and she made the awkwardness of an annual exam feel much less horrifying. The office assistants at reception were lovely too! Check-in was simple and fast. Also, the nurse who attended me was fantastic. She was funny, warm, and was able to administer a shot without any pain, and let me tell you I am a child when it comes to needles... I was astounded by the whole experience! I felt l like I left a coffee date rather than every woman's favorite time of year... the annual checkup. THANK YOU!
