Dr. Michael Bahk graduated Summa Cum Laude from Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois, with a Bachelor of Arts in English studies. More specifically, he was part of a select group of students with a concentration in Writing and was awarded the Edwin L. Shuman Essay Award. He was also part of the Honors Program in Medical Education (HPME) and subsequently attended Northwestern University’s medical school. He graduated as one of the top of his class with Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) distinctions. He was also awarded the American Academy of Neurology Medical Student Prize for Excellence for medical distinction upon graduation.
Following medical school, he completed his internship and orthopedic residency training at one of the nation’s top hospitals, Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland, working for five years under some of the country’s leading surgeons. He has an interest in shoulder, elbow and knee research and published numerous papers in journals such as the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery, American Journal of Sports Medicine and Journal of Knee Surgery.
After residency, Dr. Bahk completed the prestigious Sports Medicine Fellowship at the Southern California Orthopedic Institute and trained under some of the nation’s founding and pioneering arthroscopic surgeons. He continued to write book chapters and present shoulder research at national meetings such as the Arthroscopy Association of North America (AANA) in addition to covering local high school sports teams.
To further his understanding of the shoulder, Dr. Bahk recently completed a second fellowship in Shoulder and Elbow surgery in Philadelphia, PA with the Rothman Institute at Thomas Jefferson University. This was a one year dedicated program in arthroscopic and open surgery of the shoulder and knee
