Mike grew up in Texas and attended college at Stephen F. Austin State University. He received his MBA from the University of Houston and received a health professions scholarship from the USAF to attend medical school at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. After completing medical school he spent a total of five years in the USAF, one year at Wilford Hall in San Antonio Texas, 2 years at Hill AFB in Utah as a F-16 Flight Surgeon, and 2 years at Beale AFB in California as a U2 flight surgeon. He then went on to Internal Medical Residency training at Parkland Hospital in Dallas, Texas and completed both his general and interventional cardiology fellowship training at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. Mike also worked for the FDA reviewing medical devices in both the peripheral vascular, structural heart, and coronary branches. So in essence, he has spent most of his life in some type of formal education as either a teacher or student. Mike will tell you that medicine really is a “calling” for him and that his faith is what sustains him in difficult times. In 2013 in the midst of the most dramatic healthcare changes in 50 years Mike started Patriot Heart and Vascular and set out to help you lead a healthier, fuller life.
