I was very impressed with Dr. Drewek! My apt. was scheduled with a wrong speciality Doctor for my symptoms. Dr. Drewek came to my rescue and was able to squeeze me in, instead of rescheduling. He's very professional, warm and genuine. I feel like he has a great plan for my health needs before jumping straight to surgery.

Dr. Michael Drewek is a neurosurgeon who specializes in the spine. He graduated from the University of Chicago with honors and a degree in Biological Sciences in June of 1988. He went on to attend medical school at the University of Wisconsin, in Madison, and then completed a residency in Neurosurgery from Vanderbilt University. While in school he received several awards for his scholarly endeavors and medical research.
As a neurosurgeon, Dr. Drewek has seven years of training specifically around the spine and the brain. Throughout his training, he worked closely with orthopedic surgeons at Vanderbilt University and developed a special interest in neurosurgery of the spine. Dr. Drewek worked in Colorado at Intermountain Neurosurgery for 16 years prior to joining Panorama Orthopedics and Spine Center in September of 2015.
Dr. Drewek knew he wanted to be a doctor from the time he was 5 years old. Initially he thought he would be a heart surgeon and spent summers reading library books on the heart and heart surgery. When he began medical school, he found he was fascinated by the nervous system – the way that it worked and the things it was capable of. With the help of two mentors in medical school he began his journey to become a neurosurgeon.
Today, Dr Drewek focuses his practice on the spine and treats cervical, thoracic and lumbar disk injuries with either fusion or diskectomy techniques. in addition to performing laminectomies and spinal fusions Dr Drewek’s neurosurgical training and experience allows him to expand the scope of spinal surgery at panorama to include surgery of spinal nerves,chiari malformations and syringomyelia (fluid in the spinal cord).

First visit. Dr. Drewek efficiently utilized clinic staff to see that his patients were attended to in a timely manner. Very short wait in waiting room. The Dr. appeared in the examination room even before the initial questions with staff were complete. Dr. Drewek was friendly, outgoing, and asked appropriate and insightful questions; obtained initial x-rays, immediately displayed and discussed the results of those images, then determined the need for, and arranged for further, future imaging, with a follow-up appointment to discuss the results. I thought his methodology and approach was thorough and helpful as well as kind and considerate. On the limited evidence of this initial visit, I recommend Dr. Drewek and will continue with him as I seek an explanation and perhaps resolution of my current symptoms.

He was maybe ok, didn't really feel that he addressed my issues or took much time looking into it. Didn't seem very concerned about my level of pain or my symptoms as if I were drug seeking. Hey guess what?? Not everyone is drug seeking and some of us are in actual pain. He never came right out and said it, but he made me feel uncomfortable with his body language and I no longer felt I could talk to him about a plan to cover the pain until the steroids kick in or I get an MRI or we figure out what the heck is going on. Also, I think there were about 4 students in there as well. I felt like I just went thru a revolving door and was so confused and afraid to speak up for myself. I kept trying to explain where it was hurting and numbess/tingling/and leg trembles and I just kept getting interrupted. He told me that the steroids would take 2-5 days to kick in and I could not take any ibuprofen. Well, when you're in bad pain, 2-5 days feels like an eternity. I asked him what I should do in the meantime and he told me to keep taking the fexeril the ER Dr gave me which I had just told him did not help at all and only zonked me out. Then he proceeded to tell me my insurance would probably not cover an MRI and to start physical therapy. Really? You don't even know what's going on with me and I'm in moderate-severe pain and you want me to start exercises? What about also causing further damage?! He said my X-rays looked fine......which that tells us pretty much nothing! I know something is going on as I've never felt these kinds of symptoms or level and persistence of pain. I also felt that he was in a hurry to probably see the overbooked schedule he probably has to get em in, get em out. Definitely did not feel that this Dr. Really cared about my well being. Very disappointed, frustrated and felt intimidated as if I should just suck it up.

Dr. Drewek was excellent at explaining the meaning of the MRI and Xray findings. He treated me as a human and individual that he cared about and I sincerely appreciated that. He also explained what he felt was necessary to help rectify the issues discussed.

I appreciate his thoroughness and determination to identify the specific cause of my problem before deciding on a course of action. I feel fortunate to have had the opportunity to see him.
There was considerable difficulty with the check-in and other administrative processes that need immediate attention. These problems are unrelated to the doctor and in no way should reflect on my satisfaction with him. The entire administrative process and many staff seemed to be in a state of chaos. People seemed to be busy "doing their job" but not engaged in managing the patient experience.

I would have preferred Dr. Drewek or assistant give more information regarding post operative care, before the surgery. I was clueless regarding how much help I would need after coming home. Thankfully I have excellent family that stayed with me in shifts of 24 hours for 6 days. Otherwise a Re-hab center would have been needed. I think it is necessary that patients are informed of this before the operation.
