Dr. Michael J Hervey II, born and raised in St. Louis Missouri, spent a year in the United States Navy before attending Morehouse College, in Atlanta, Georgia, where he studied Biology. He then attended Harvard University GSAS, Division of Continuing Education where he received a Masters in Biology. While there, he worked at Beth Israel Deaconess and Brigham and Women’s Hospital on the National Emphysema treatment trial: his Masters thesis was on Tracheamalasia. Dr. Hervey continued his education at the University Of Virginia School Of Medicine, where he was active in leadership, community service, and cancer research within the Department of Radiation Oncology. He found himself, upon graduation, in unexpected territory practicing primary care whilst doing a Family Medicine Residency at the University of Minnesota, Bethesda Clinic. Michael excelled, and was active in leadership and research there as well. He won several teaching awards, most notably, the Minnesota Academy of Family Medicine Resident of the Year award, and was nominated for the National award. Dr. Hervey enjoyed critical care and obstetrics so much that he applied for a Family Medicine fellowship in both fields at Maricopa Medical Center. Unfortunately, the fellowship closed shortly after he relocated to Phoenix. He took a job working on a rural Arizona Indian reservation, while applying for an Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency. Dr. Hervey trained at Phoenix Integrated OB/GYN Residency. Once again, he received numerous teaching awards, nominated and voted upon by peers and the Faculty.
In 2013, Dr. Hervey joined forces with Dr’s. Michael Mechill and Eugenia Politis. Together they provided safe and efficient care to the most complex and high-risk patients. Dr. Hervey has a significant interest in full spectrum women’s health. His training as an OB/GYN and Family Medicine physician allows for him to provide a broad spectrum of care competently and completely. Since joining Dr. Mechill’s practice, Dr. Hervey has branched out into developing a robust integrated women’s health care model. He, as lead hospital administrator, is in discussion regarding facility design. He has also aligned with multiple birthing centers (Baby Moon Inn) and Midwifery practices to provide a stronger, yet softer, patient touch. He has explored deep relationships with Bayless Health Care to support the mental health and primary care of women throughout their pregnancy and beyond. From these explorations, Dr. Hervey, together with his wife; Ellie Tan CNM, WHNP-BC developed Premier OB/GYN LLC- TeamBabyCatcher.com . Together they hope to combine all of what they have learned in their various explorations and provide a compassionate and unique care team as they venture out on their own.
Dr. Hervey has also found a particular interest in family planning. As a father and husband, as well as being a product of a teenage pregnancy, Dr. Hervey is ever so sensitive and compassionate for the plight of youth, and the challenges of unplanned pregnancies, and family size. Dr. Hervey has therefore taken an interest in being competent in all forms of birth control for women, and vasectomies for men (using his Family Medicine background). Dr. Hervey continues his interest in teaching residents, nurse practitioners, and midwives. Dr. Hervey is outspoken about women’s health care and demands only the best for his patients.
Dr. Hervey is married to Ellie Tan who joined his practice as a midwife. They have two lovely children, Michael J. Hervey III, 9 years old and Kieara Isabel Hervey, 6 years old.
In his free time he enjoys being with his two children, and his wife. They enjoy travel, games, movies, and more.
