Dr. Mona Shangold provides women's health care in a private office setting in Philadelphia --- including routine GYN exams, evaluation of GYN problems, and advice about most women's health issues. We try to provide you with the best possible care in a friendly and comfortable environment. We encourage you to ask questions, and we take the necessary time to answer your questions and educate you about your medical problems. We value your time as well as ours, and we try to see all patients in very timely fashion, without compromising thoroughness.
Visiting our office will be most efficient for you if you provide us with all of your medical and insurance information in advance. Most of our patients complete their registration forms in advance, in order to make the visit even more efficient.

The worst experience I have ever had. She did not listen to my concerns and pushed a different form of birth control. She put her finger in my butt without asking & made me bleed from my pap smear. I told her I was bleeding. She told me it was normal (I have never bled from one before) & threw a pad at me. I was in pain all day & felt violated. I would never recommend anyone to go to her.

The nurses were okay, but very helpful. However, the doctor was not very warm, especially for the type of procedure I was there for. I always feel OBGYNs should be a bit more understanding and listen, however, she did not take my concerns into consideration. I felt very uncomfortable throughout the entire visit and have decided to not return.

The reception/staff were really unprofessional. Someone was eating at the front desk and they were speaking very loudly about interpersonal/work issues that patients should NOT be hearing. The doctor was not very friendly and did not respect my personal preferences related to my care. I would not recommend this practice.

I thought Dr. Shangold was phenomenal. She actually took the time to hear me out and really listen to all of my issues and everything I wanted to talk about. She was very understanding and spoke to me like an equal (as opposed to condescendingly). Not only was she wonderful, but also the woman at the front desk was extremely patient, friendly, and helpful. And the woman who brought me to the examination room and took my height, weight, and blood pressure and then drew blood for tests was also wonderful!! I had a great experience at the office and will definitely stick with Dr. Shangold.

Be very, very cautious and read more reviews that are NOT on ZocDoc - they're much more reflective. First appointment was satisfactory as I believe she would like to retain new patients. She was kind, a little rough, but all in all I enjoyed my first visits. Things have gone downhill from there. I have visited her a few times over the past couple years and she has been rude, condescending, and has strangely suggested antidepressants on multiple occasions for pretty generic symptoms. Final straw was recent. She would not let me get my testing results without coming into the office - turns out, I waited nearly two hours for a 7-minute session and a huge copay! Highly unethical. Also, quite painful exams. The only pluses of this office are the accessible location and the rest of her patient and caring staff.

I have never felt so uncomfortable at a doctor's visit before . She rolled her eyes, interrupted me several times and made me feel even worse than I did before I arrived. Only go to her if you're not sensitive. Fortunately the nurse was really nice.

Dr. Shangold is terrific--thoughtful, thorough, and efficient. She takes the time to carefully explain every step of the exam and the follow-up communication in order to ensure that her patient understands both what is about to happen in the exam room and what will happen with test results and prescriptions. Without prompting, she also gave me a brilliant suggestion for managing prescription refills with my pharmacy, and she followed up on a passing comment with a new strategy for combating hormonal migraines. The truly impressive part of the visit was that when she heard that I was planning to be married in a few months, she asked if I needed any help timing my birth control to make sure that the wedding week was period-free--definitely something *I* had already thought of, but not something I expected my gynecologist to be worried about on my behalf!
In short, she's lovely, professional, and has a very steadying bedside manner. Hooray for Dr. Shangold.

I found Dr. Shangold to be very judgmental and disrespectful. Her front desk receptionist was also extremely rude and unhelpful- terrible customer service. Overall a horrible experience- not to mention she recommended a prescription that was awful, causing me to have to go off birth control- the main reason I went there.

I have seen Dr. Shangold before and am usually one of her defenders ( I kind of just took the tough personality with a grain of salt) but was very unhappy with my appointment today. I am now in agreement with many who have seen her before and stated their dismay. I am not able to get testing results without coming back in and paying a huge co pay, she spoke to me in a very condescending manner, and the exam was painful.

Her exams hurt. Her office looks like something out of hoarders. They keep you waiting for hours. She can be abrupt and uncomfortably rude. Don't go to her.
I found a new doctor and shared that my last exam hurt and I was nervous to be on the table again. She seemed shocked that this painful exam hadn't been my first.

A year ago I was new in Philadelphia and wanted to find an OBGYN that was centrally located and easy to get to. I scheduled my appointment on ZocDoc and later got a note that Dr. Shangold's office rescheduled my appointment (without asking) for a time that I wasn't available so I was already annoyed with how unorganized the office was. Strike one.
On the day of my appointment I arrived 15 minutes ahead of time and was there on my lunch break. After waiting 45 minutes I told them I would have to reschedule because my break was almost up but they rudely told me she was on her way. Late for work. Strike 2.
I finally met with Dr. Shangold and she was the most unprofessional doctor I've ever met with. She was cold and rude. I felt like she was pressuring me to take birth control pills, which I told her I did not want to take. It's already unpleasant enough to be exposed from the waste down, so adding the unpleasantries is a deal breaker for me. Unfortunately, my PAP results did not come back clear so I had to schedule another visit because she would not discuss results over the phone. Never in my life have I heard of this rule before, and my current doctor has called with results, so I'm sure they they schedule these visits to bill my insurance. I later came back for a colpap and these results showed that I would need to go to a cancer specialist. I was worried about who she might suggest so I did my own research and found my own doctor. Even the nurse at my current doctor said they had a difficult time having my files sent over.
Hearing "cancer" is one of the hardest things you can hear and I felt this doctor made it even harder. Strike 3, 4, and 5.
No, I would not recommend this doctor.

Reception staff were very pleasant and helpful, but I waited for my appointment for almost an hour with no one else in the waiting room. Dr. Shangold's bedside manner was thorough at best, but relatively rough and cold. I did not feel an ounce of comfort in what is already an uncomfortable experience. Was shocked and extremely put off by the lack of organization in her personal office. I will be looking for a new doctor.

This was the worst appointment I've ever had. The front desk staff continuously argued with me about having my paperwork filled out in advance. I also waited over two hours and some of the staff even warned me that the Dr. often charges for procedures that don't need to be done. When meeting with Dr. Shangold, she was rude and unprofessional. She also told me that the only way to get test results if anything came back out of the ordinary was by booking another appointment. The whole office seemed corrupt and shady. Do not go to this doctor!

This was my first visit to the doctor. I've read the reviews before scheduling the appointment so I didn't have high expectations. I waited about a little over 1.5 hours to be seen, which I expected per the reviews. However, I was pleasantly surprise by how pleasant she was. She apologized the moment she came in and she took her time to explain things to me. She also gave me a multitude of options and suggestions regarding treatment. I plan on returning, I also booked my appointments in advanced (First time slot of the day) to see if that would minimize the wait time.
