Dr. Monika Roots is a practicing child/adolescent psychiatrist, an adjunct professor at the University of Minnesota and the Chief Medical Officer of CogCubed. She is a graduate of Carleton College, received her M.D. from University of Sint Eustatius, and then completed her adult psychiatry residency at the University of Minnesota. She then went on to complete a fellowship in child/adolescent psychiatry, also at the University of Minnesota.
Dr. Roots has practiced in a variety of settings including schools, community outreach programs, and medical/physical rehabilitation units. She believes in a multidisciplinary treatment approach to mental health which takes into account the individual’s cultural, biological, psychological, and social needs. Her interest in a mutisystem approach to mental health led to her position as Chief Medical Officer of CogCubed focused on assessing and training cognitive processes through games used on new and innovative technologies. She is conducting research on these games in the areas of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and Autism Spectrum Disorders, and has plans to expand to other disorders including Anxiety, Depression, Dementia and Traumatic Brain Injuries. Her work has been featured at several national conferences, in addition to multiple journals including Clinical Psychiatry News, Boston Globe, Health 2.0, Techdot MN and Modern Physician.

The appointment was very helpful. Dr. Heller was informative and provided me with the care & resources I needed.

I'm not fond of Doctor visits in general so they were okay.

Her fee was way too high. She has good clinical still yet did not hear what was clearly communicated to her. Moreover, given the reasons for the appointment namely an appointment with an outside Medical Doctor, The fact that she was rather quick to draw conclusions negated justifying cost of meeting with her for a follow up appointment. Having said that, with more experience this psychiatrist has the potential to become a more well more effective clinician. Moreover, this particular psychiatrist demonstrated the fact this particular psychiatrist needs more training from either a seasoned social worker, Licensed Mental Health Care Worker (LMHC), Social Worker, Clinical Licensed Psychologist, for, better yet rotating on an either an in-patient fellowship, preferably Massachusetts General Hospital to gain a through appreciation just how "emotionally vulnerable' it really is to be woken out of a sound sleep to have blood drawn.

Very unprofessional. Not willing to help and made inappropriate judgements. Left the office feeling worse and very hurt. What kind of medical professional turns down people sincerely asking for help.

We love our visits w/Dr. Heller. I like that she talks directly to my kids instead of having me answer/interpret their issues. Super knowledgeable about the meds and their idiosyncrasies.

My visit was very quick w/Dr. Heller and I enjoyed how engaged she was with me as a patient. My only complaint is the amount of time I have had to wait in the waiting room the last few appts I've had.
