Nathalie Jette, MSc, MD, is a Professor of Neurology and Population Health Science & Policy. She is a neurologist who specializes in epilepsy and a health services researcher who serves as Vice Chair for Clinical Research and Chief of the Division of Health Outcomes and Knowledge Translation Research in the Department of Neurology. She is Chair of the North American Commission of the International League Against Epilepsy (ILAE), and Chair of the ILAE Guidelines Task Force.
Dr. Jette has been the recipient of over 50 research, teaching, and clinical awards, including in 2017, the ILAE Ambassador for Epilepsy Award. She studies appropriateness and quality-of-care, outcomes (especially surgical), psychiatric comorbidities, and implementation science in those with neurological conditions. She is involved in the development of online tools/apps to improve neurological care. For example, her team developed a web-based tool (http://toolsforepilepsy.com/) aimed at helping physicians identify who may be a candidate for an epilepsy surgery evaluation. She also works extensively with patient, community, physician, and research organizations to ensure that her research is informed by the needs of those living with neurological conditions and that key discoveries and best practices are translated in a timely manner.
As part of her clinical practice, she sees all those age 12 and older with epilepsy. She has extensive expertise in the management of persons living with epilepsy including but not limited to those with complex epilepsies, drug resistant epilepsy, autoimmune epilepsies, etc. She also has expertise in the management of epilepsy in the elderly, women's issues in epilepsy, and the workup of those who may be candidates for epilepsy surgery.
