Supporting individuals and communities on their road to healing. Making sure everyone's voice is heard. Creating safe spaces for all patients.
In your opinion, what should be the role of a primary care provider for a patient, taking into account both physical health and behavioral health needs?
In my opinion, the role of a primary care provider truly entails being able to understand the patient's whole story and experience and then be able to use that information to ensure that a truly integrated approach to treating their symptoms is being employed. Specifically, this means evaluating for medical/physical contributors to any given condition/symptom, while also providing options for behavioral health treatment and counseling regarding best lifestyle measures (e.g. diet, exercise, and mindset). All of this should be done with compassionate, patient-centered integrity. Additionally, referral to resources outside the primary physician can and should certainly be employed where needed, but the PCP is still the main consciousness/coordination of the conditions at hand and the patient's overall health.
Tell us a little bit about yourself. What do you like to do in your spare time?
I enjoy reading, yin yoga, playing the harp (recently picked it up in adulthood), spending time with friends, and art (observing and making my own projects).
