Nereida Gonzalez-Berrios, MD is a General Psychiatrist who works in the Katy area. She was born and raised in the beautiful tropical island of Puerto Rico when she later decided to relocate with her family to Texas to further her career. She is fluent in both English and Spanish. She always had a passion for science and health and after finishing her bachelor degree on Microbiology at the University of Puerto Rico, Dr. Gonzalez-Berrios completed a medical doctorate degree in the prestigious Ponce School of Medicine in Puerto Rico (currently known as Ponce Health Sciences University). It was during her medical internship and clinical rotations that she decided to specialize in one of the most rewarding specialties in medicine, Psychiatry. She completed her General Psychiatry Training Program at the University of Puerto Rico Medical Sciences Campus and graduated in 2008.
She started her own private practice in a small town in Puerto Rico called Barceloneta, until she decided to relocate to Texas with her loving husband and children. Dr. Gonzalez-Berrios started her medical journey in Texas working at the Michael E. DeBakey VA health system helping those who protected our country in time of war. She worked in the VA system for over 5 years helping those in need of mental health services. She then had the opportunity to do telemedicine during her VA system position and outside of the VA as locum tenens provider and has gained experience in this new emerging field since then.
Dr. Gonzalez-Berrios has been providing mental health services in the Katy are since 2018 and will start providing telemedicine services as a general psychiatrist on Talkiatry. She has vast knowledge in treating different conditions such as mood disorders, anxiety disorders, psychotic disorders, intellectual impairment, ADHD, eating disorders, PTSD, personality disorders, etc. She is looking forward to help others with their mental health and wellbeing.

I understand psychiatrist have areas of focus & they do not treat everything. Due to the lack of communication between ZoDoc & Talkiatry (the platform used to connect with the therapist) I practically wasted my time & the worst part was getting no empathy whatsoever from the doctor. She basically gave a diagnosis based on a 10-15 questions pre-assessment that I was sent to right before the appointment started? By me answering “I get easily distracted” on the pre-assessment, she jumped into the conclusion &and told me “she doesn’t deal with focus/concentration issues” without even more further questions or even leading with an apology for the inconvenience of having to cancel my appoint & that “I should’ve paid more attention when filling out the other questionnaire” (was never sent to me) Instead of trying to understand the full situation of what happened, she assumed, judged me, was not kind & dismissed me with no more explanation than “just call and they’ll help” 0/10

Dr. Berrios is quite nice and well aware of the latest medications and treatments needed for psychiatric problems. For virtual visits there seems to be some internet problem at her end or the app platform has this problem. Voice is sometimes not clear and/or cracks

I like that she is very straight forward and asks direct questions. My therapist normally makes me try to say how I’m feeling, but I need to be asked yes/no questions or asked directly to explain something, rather than just having a conversation.
