Dr. Menon’s Dermatology career began in the United States Navy where he was assigned to Naval Regional Medical Center, Portsmouth, VA. He became staff dermatologist and also served as the department head. He expanded the range of services provided by instituting the surgical clinic and case log and organizing the annual skin cancer screening project in conjunction with the American Academy of Dermatology.
Dr. Menon was the first in Naval Medicine to implement a comprehensive melanoma follow-up clinic. Dr Menon promoted research and participated in the National Cancer Institute’s six year program and study of the chemoprevention of skin cancer.
Dr. Menon’s experience in operational medicine includes deployment aboard the first modern naval hospital ship, the USNS Mercy during her maiden cruise and subsequent assignment to the Philippines and South Pacific for humanitarian service in 1987. He served in Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm at the Fleet Hospital Five in 1990-1991, where he established and led the Dermatology Department.
Dr Menon holds the academic appointment of Associate Professor at the Eastern Virginia School of Medicine and the George Washington University School of Medicine in Washington, D.C.
In 1994, Dr. Menon was selected for additional training in Mohs’ micrographic surgery and completed his fellowship at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, TX in 1995. In 1997, Dr Menon returned to Naval Regional Medical Center and started the first Mohs’ surgery program ever instituted at this command.

Good customer service from front office staff during check-in and check-out. His exam room assistant (RN?, LPN?, MA?) did not introduce herself and was not very personable. Once doctor arrived, he introduced himself and began his exam/assessment. Examination and consult was as if once he assessed my condition, he made his decision not to proceed further beyond a cursory attempt to treat me. Whole process took place in less than 30 minutes from check-in to departure from office. Being retired Navy myself, I could definitely tell he learned his bedside manner and exam techniques from treating Navy personnel...reminded me of all the doctors I ever saw in the Navy. Felt rushed in & out...Hi, can't help you, you really do not have a problem, good-bye. Scheduled to return in two months...will see if things are different then.
