Dr. Paul M. Keown has been providing comprehensive ophthalmology care to families in Vancouver since 1983. He is now happy to see children of patients he began seeing when they were children. Dr. Keown has a high referral rate, and patients often commend him on his thorough explanations of conditions, diagnoses and treatment options.
Dr. Keown received his BS in general science with honors from the University of Oregon. He received his medical degree from Oregon Health & Science University. He then completed his ophthalmology residency at Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke’s Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois, where he served as chief resident his senior year.
Dr. Keown chose to specialize in ophthalmology to enrich people’s quality of life through improved vision. Dr. Keown sees great benefit in providing preventative and wellness-based vision care, but when faced with challenging ocular conditions, he finds it very rewarding to diagnose and successfully treat them.
Offering his services to people in need is something Dr. Keown is passionate about. He has traveled to Malawi, Africa as a volunteer to provide eye care at a remote medical mission hospital. Locally, he provides volunteer ophthalmology services for the Free Clinic of Southwest Washington and for the Mission Cataract program.
Dr. Keown is thrilled to call the Pacific Northwest home, where he enjoys all that the great outdoors have to offer including hiking along the Columbia River Gorge and through the wilderness areas of Mt. Adams and Mt. St. Helens. He also enjoys skiing and snow shoeing. Dr. Keown stays active with a variety of indoor activities as well including yoga, pilates, feral fit, zumba, hip hop and ballet classes.
