Dr. Lavine is a great listener and a thorough examiner. I have a rather enigmatic problem that has eluded most physicians - partly because they don’t listen to what I tell them or perhaps disregard my insight. While he has yetto solve my issue, I think Dr. Lavine is heading down the right path and I appreciate his not dismissing my thoughts.

Dr. Lavine recently performed a successful foot surgery (bunion) for me. The wait is generally as long, or longer, than the actual appointment, but his medical work (surgery and post-op) was exceptional.

He was a very nice doctor; the office was busy but I was seen relatively quickly, and when Dr. Lavine did see me, he spent a very long time getting my medical history and discussing the issue with me. I amhappy to have found him and intent to stick with him for my knee and any other orthopedic issues I may have.

I was very hopeful in working with Dr. Lavine due to his background and strong credentials, but I was extremely disappointed that although arriving early I was not seen until an hour after my appointment time, then I needed x-rays whichthey do not do at their location and I had to go to another floor to spend another hour then come back up with a CD for him to review. If the wait was going to be so long, I would have loved the staff to be mindful enough to send me for x-rays in advance so my time wouldn't have been so wasted. I had an afternoon appointment and anticipated going back to work, but got out so late it was pointless. I spent more time waiting then speaking to him, and it was primarily to rule out a possible injury. Although, I may consider giving him another chance, I don't know if the wait is worth it. There are too many great doctors out there with offices that respect patient time.

It seems that this office over-schedules -- the waiting room was full of people, and these people had to wait for quite a while (I had to wait for 45 minutes). Dr. Lavine was somewhat personable, but I didn't get asense that he was all that interested or particularly empathic. It might have been because of the volume of the patients he had to see, or that it was getting to the end of the day. In any case, this visit stood in an unfavorable contrast to some other MD visits I had to make recently, where the providers were able to engage more effectively.

Dr. Lavine will keep you waiting long after your appointment time. He didn't order an MRI for my hip, which clearly needed one (two subsequent orthopedists did order it.He also seems to be a leader in tort reform (meaning making itillegal/difficult for patients to sue for malpractice) and seems to discourage treatment in order to save insurance companies money.

Dr. Lavine was excellent! He really took the time to listen, understand my concerns, and explain alternatives. The front office staff, however, was very inefficient and took a long time to get me signed in even though I had already filledall of out the forms. The wait was almost pleasant, though, because the waiting room was so uniquely decorated with posters from actors and dancers the doctor has treated. There is a radiology practice in the building, which was very convenient. He was able to send me right down for x-rays and review the images immediately. There is also a pharmacy in the building.

Dr. Lavine has clearly worked with a range of high-profile professionals whose livelihoods depend upon having healthy, functioning bodies. And for what is probably a minor, temporary injury, he gave me the same time and respect. Definitely recommend him.

He seemed competent and nice, but his receptionist should have told me when I arrived that he was stuck in surgery. I would have rescheduled rather than wait an hour and a half to see him for 10 minutes. Very inconsiderate. My time is money too, ya know?

I decided to go to Dr. Lavine because his office is closest to mine, but I wish I hadn't. He failed to explain my diagnosis to me other than telling me the name of the issue and scheduled me for surgerywithout going over pros/cons, risks, recovery, etc. I realized that I should have asked more questions, so I called his office a few weeks before my surgery to get some clarification on what type of anesthesia would be used, how long the surgery would be, what the recovery period would be, etc. and his receptionist wouldn't let me talk to him. Rather, she told me that I would go under local anesthetic, have to wear a bandage for two weeks, and would probably not be able to go to work for two weeks after surgery. I called the surgery center to speak with a nurse there about what the receptionist said and was corrected that I would actually be under general anesthesia and that I would have a bandage on for a few days but would be encouraged to use my fingers even with the bandage on, so I wouldn't have to miss work besides on the day of the surgery. Dr. Lavine was late for the surgery and my follow-up appointment. I was also uncomfortable with how much he touched my leg, shoulder and back in an attempt to be comforting. Sorry, but I don't need someone that's practically a stranger unnecessarily touching me before asking to do so.

If you have other options, I would avoid making an appointment with Dr. Lavine. As you can see from the other review, this doctor had a very bad habit of leaving patients in rooms waiting for extremely long amounts of time.At my first appointment, I waited for 30 minutes before being brought in, and then waited another 30 minutes after an initial consultation with Lavine's radiologist. At my second appointment, I sat in the exam room for an hour before getting up and talking to the receptionist. She said that there was nothing she could do, so I left. Lavine wasted an hour of my day in the middle of my work day. I spent my entire lunch hour waiting. Additionally, the office is extremely cluttered and messy and the which sends the message (confirmed by the chronic lateness) that this is not a business being run by someone who has a handle on his affairs.

The doctor was great - pretty friendly, efficient, and to the point. The reception was a little wanting; I was told by one receptionist that the other would be right back, and then waited about 20 minutes until she was. Untilthen, I couldn't sign in or anything; I just kind of waited. Once she did get back, she was professional and courteous. Overall, I wasn't blown away, but I was satisfied and at the end of the day I got what I wanted: Medical care from a knowledgeable and friendly professional, delivered efficiently. I would definitely go back again.

Dr. Lavine is an excellent doctor with a pleasant manner. He does not talk down to the patient but explains things clearly. The only problem I've had is the wait time. Today at 20 mins. was better than the last twovisits, but a good part of that was spent alone in the exam room when I would have preferred the more comfortable waiting area.
