I think raising children is really the highest contribution we can make to humanity. I feel so lucky to witness the development of a child, not only as an individual but also as a part of a family and a community.
The best part of my job is providing continuity of care throughout a person's childhood and adolescence. What other profession allows you to see a patient over a couple of decades and sometimes have them come back to bring their children in as patients? It's wonderful to be able to make a positive difference in someone's life.
During each visit with the family, I strive to ensure their concerns have been heard and their questions have been addressed. The best possible day is when a family walks away and has the genuine knowledge that not only were they heard, they were also cared for and supported. My goal is to provide something useful and add value to their lives as they grow.
