For the last 25 years, Dr. R. Anthony Hutchinson has been dedicated to serving patient’s eye care needs in North San Diego County. In 1975, Dr. Hutchinson received his Bachelor of Arts degree in neurophysiology from the University of California, Los Angeles. He then went on to attend the University of California, Berkeley where he received his Doctor of Optometry degree.
While highly qualified to handle most eye care needs, Dr. Hutchinson has a special interest in the effects of video display terminals (VDTs) and computer screens on vision. He has published a book titled Computer Eye Stress, in which he offers computer users a two-part program for the relief of visual discomfort while using VDTs. He has also developed a special eye chart that facilitates effective communication with deaf patients.
Dr. Hutchinson also has a special interest in contact lenses and related research. He has conducted numerous studies on the fitting of bifocal contact lenses. He is a member of the American Optometric Association’s section on contact lenses. His office offers a wide range of contact lenses to suit every patient’s eye care needs and lifestyle. In addition to his professional work, Dr. Hutchinson actively gives back to the community. He is a member of the Encinitas Rotary Club and the Encinitas Chamber of Commerce.
