Dr. Rachel LaMonica, born and raised on Long Island, attended the State University of New York at Stony Brook. She attended graduate school at SUNY Stony Brook, followed by medical school at the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine in Westbury, New York. While there, she was an undergraduate teaching fellow and became a member of the national Osteopathic Scholastic Honor Society Psi Sigma Alpha. She graduated in 2005.
Early in her medical school training, Dr. LaMonica found her passion for women's health. She moved to Connecticut and completed her residency in Obstetrics & Gynecology at the University of Connecticut. Upon graduation from residency, she began a 2 year fellowship in Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery at The Hospital of Central Connecticut under the direction of Anthony Luciano, MD. She graduated from fellowship in June, 2011.
Dr. LaMonica's professional focus and special interest is in the minimally invasive approach to gynecological surgery. Her fellowship training encompassed laparoscopic and robotic surgery, and medical management of benign gynecologic diseases, such as endometriosis, fibroids, and pelvic pain. In 2013, she was co-investigator in a study about the advantage of robotics in the diagnosis of endometriosis and is currently serving as co-investigator of a study for a laparoscopic closure device. Dr. LaMonica is an active member of both the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopy (AAGL) and American Society of Reproductive Medicine/Society of Reproductive Surgeons (ASRM/SRS) and is actively involved in clinical research through Women's Health CT. She was an award recipient of "America's Top Obstetricians and Gynecologists" from the Consumers Research Counsel of America in both 2013 and 2014.
