Dr. Richard L. Degen is an optometrist board certified by the National Board of Examiners in Optometry. He has over 30 years of practice experience. Dr. Degen retired as a Colonel from the United States Air Force on April 1, 2012 after 26 years of faithful service.
Dr. Degen received his Doctor of Optometry degree in 1982 from Pacific University College of Optometry in Forest Grove, Oregon. After graduation, he held several appointments with practices in Portland, Oregon and Vancouver, Washington. In 1986 he joined the United States Air Force and from 1986 – 1989 he was assigned as the Chief of Optometry Services for the 812th Strategic Hospital at Ellsworth Air Force Base, South Dakota. He then served from 1989 - 1992 as Chief of Optometry Services with the 52nd Tactical Fighter Wing at Spangdahlem Air Base, Germany. Dr. Degen returned to the Northwest in 1992 where he worked as a Clinical Associate at the Vancouver Contact Lens & Vision Clinic before joining Vancouver Eye Care in 1997. Dr. Degen served 20 years in the Air Force Reserve at McChord Air Base, Washington in charge of the 446th Aerospace Medicine Squadron Optometry Clinic, was the Director of Training for the medical squadron and served on the Squadron’s Executive Medical Committee.
