Dr. Richard Nielsen is the senior member of the Ear, Nose & Throat Center, having joined the practice in 1978. He graduated from the Creighton University School of Medicine in 1971 and completed his internship and general surgery residency at San Joaquin General Hospital in Stockton, California. He specialized in otolaryngology at the University of Utah.
As a major in the U.S. Army Medical Corps, Dr. Nielsen spent two years in Frankfurt, Germany where he received the Army Commendation Medal as Staff Otolaryngologist.
During his career he has held a number of key administrative posts including Chief Resident, Division of Otolaryngology at a University of Utah Affiliated Hospital; Secretary, Utah State Society, ENT; Chairman, Division of ENT at Primary Children’s Medical Center; Chairman, Department of Surgery at Holy Cross Hospital; Director of Residency Training, Otolaryngology at Salt Lake Regional Medical Center; Chairman Credential Committee at Salt Lake Regional Medical Center.
He also served as editor of Otolaryngology News. Dr. Nielsen is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is also a member of the American Council of Otolaryngology; American Academy of Ophthalmology & Otolaryngology; American Medical Association; Utah State Medical Society; Salt Lake County Medical Society; and Utah Otolaryngologic Society.
