We were trained in an era when the best medicine was the least medicine. We recognize that modern scientific medicine is at times able to diagnose, treat, and cure conditions that defied our efforts in the past. We also recognize that most testing and treatments, directly or indirectly, carry the danger of harming people. We seek the balance whereby we do everything that is necessary and helpful, and nothing that is useless or harmful.
Patients used to be just people, who made their own decisions. Doctors were advisors, who had time to keep up with all the new information. Then the modern era arrived. People became consumers, and marketing campaigns cranked up to convince people that more was better, encouraging them to demand their share. Insurance companies became for-profit, and managed care squeezed doctors, hospitals, and patients for profit. Marketing for money, increasing demand, and intentional roadblock of access to care pretty much sums up our current environment.
And still, people need health care and advice on how to navigate the maze. We are part of a network of specialists affiliated with Piedmont Hospital. We hope you never need the specialists or the hospital services, but they are there. We feel that specialists of Internal Medicine are able to treat about 80% of what comes through our door, and we trust our sub-specialty colleagues to never recommend services that are unnecessary.
The best health is to never need a doctor, and to not worry unnecessarily about health and the inevitable destiny of dying and death. Second best is to have professionals you trust, and that is where we come in. We want to avoid the marketing and the gimmicks, and simply be available to provide evidence based care so that each individual person can live their life to the fullest. I was very satisfied with Dr Coney and his staff. They were very friendly and professional. Dr Coney is very personable. He spent time listening to my concerns and we discussed my treatment options. I am thrilled that I chose him to be my PCP.

Office wait time was mediocre. I'm new to Atlanta and I've been seeing a lot of doctors because 1) I want to find someone good and 2) many doctors here like to prescribe just a few days of meds for chronic problems that go on for months. My experience with Dr. Coney was good but less than ideal. His office charges a lot especially for a first visit. He had a lot of ideas and suggestions for the future which I liked. He prescribed a few different things to try and was generous with the refills. EXCEPT, I asked for milder narcotics because it's the only thing that's worked for me in the past. And he prescribed a few, which is better than a lot of docs have done. But it was a very very few of those. So in the short term I feel like I'm still looking for some way to manage the pretty serious pain I'm in.

Wow, finally a doctor that would listen. He had reviewed info prior to coming in and was willing to review additional documents in the room. Guess I found my new doctor and the 40min drive will be worth it every time.
He gave me a lot of practical information.
