Dr. Robert K. Ilowite, DO, FAASD, is a board certified Dermatologist by the Board of Certification in Dermatology an affiliate of the American Board of Physician Specialties. He is the founder of The Dermatology Center and has been serving the Hillsborough community as well as Somerset and Hunterdon Counties for over 20 years. Dr. Ilowite is affiliated with Hunterdon Medical Center, in Flemington, New Jersey.
Dr. Ilowite performs thousands of skin examinations each year. During the examination the doctor uses a hand held Dermatoscope which allows him to more accurately exam all types of skin lesions under magnification. This process generally eliminates unnecessary biopsies but at the same time helps identify lesions that could be of concern.
Dr. Ilowite has a special interest in the treatment of subclinical sun-damage or damage not yet easily seen on the skin. This preventative medical process along with the regular use of sunscreens can eliminate sun damage and potentially slow the progression towards certain types of skin cancers.
Based on his research on the treatment of sun damaged skin, Dr. Ilowite published, “The Identification and Treatment of Subclinical Sun Damage With 5-Fluorouracil Cream: A Small Prospective Study."
