Two years later, he received a Doctor of Philosophy from and completed a Postdoctoral Fellowship in the University of Pennsylvania's Department of Pharmacology. Dr. Mickel completed his surgical internship at the University of California, San Diego in 1980 and four years later completed his residency training in Head and Neck Surgery at the University of California, Los Angeles.
