Many, however, express regret that they no longer have a chance to embark on a new way of living, taking the best possible care of their bodies, which are the vessels of their spirit, intellect and the means of making a productive impact on the world.” Dr. Speck, M.D., is a cardiologist and the medical director of cardiac rehabilitation and prevention services at the Swedish Heart & Vascular Institute. She has been a member of the Swedish medical staff since 1985. Under her guidance, the Swedish Heart & Vascular Institute is a national leader in early detection and prevention of heart disease, as well as in disease-reversal and disease-management techniques. She is board-certified in internal medicine and cardiovascular disease. Besides being certified by the American Heart Association in advanced cardiac life support, she has also completed the Washington State Medical Association Physician Management Education program. She is a clinical assistant professor at the University of Washington’s School of Medicine. After earning a bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois, she got medical and master’s degrees in public Health from the University of Illinois at the Medical Center in Chicago. An internship and residency in internal medicine at the University of Washington’s Affiliated Hospitals followed. In 1983, she completed a fellowship through the University of Washington’s Division of Cardiology.
