“I have always felt that medicine was a noble profession. What interested me particularly in gastroenterology was its diversity. I liked that it combines consultative care, medical management and procedural medicine. Yet, while I still enjoy these aspects of what I do, what motivates me is compassion. I care about people, and I believe that compassion and commitment are essential to providing the excellent care that each and every person wants and deserves.
“Through experience, I’ve gained an understanding of the psychosocial aspects of gastrointestinal disorders. They present differently, and they affect people differently.
So my patients’ best care depends on me understanding who they are and being invested in their health. I listen. I sit down and talk with them and their families, and I don’t rush them. Ultimately, I treat them with the focus, consideration and compassion that I would want for my own family.”
