Creating deep connections with patients is what drew Dr. Kim to ophthalmology. He joined EHNW in 2007 because he was attracted to the staff and doctors’ reputation for impeccable ethics. Dr. Kim is a corneal specialist with a special interest in contact lens related corneal infection and herpetic eye disease. He also enjoys performing surgeries including cataract, refractive and corneal procedures, trying hard to incorporate emerging technologies into his practice while adhering to the highest standards of patient safety.
Though corneal transplants have been performed for decades, Dr. Kim is excited to offer a new way of performing transplantation surgery called Descemet’s Stripping Endothelial Keratoplasty (DSEK). In traditional corneal transplants, a patient’s entire cornea is removed and replaced. Using DSEK techniques, only 5 % of the cornea is removed and replaced, making the procedure less traumatic and leading to faster visual recovery and decreased risk of graft rejection.
Patients find Dr. Kim’s warmth and sincerity very engaging. I try to put myself in my patients’ shoes and treat them like I would want them to treat my own family. He developed this keen sensitivity and empathy towards others from formative experiences in his childhood. As a youth, Dr. Kim’s grandmother lived with his family for over 10 years. During that time, she was blinded by an incurable eye disease. Living under the same roof with her and watching her adjust to her vision loss deeply affected him.

I arrived on time, was taken back to be checked out by the assistant right away, but than waited for 45 min's in a dark room for the Dr. So yes I was seen right away but not by the Dr who made me wait 45 minutes. Than it's as thought all those questions you answer on the questionnaire and to the assistant a second time are not even read by the Dr. I had to ask him about a question I had that was clearly documented by the assistant. He wasn't going to address it at all. I was in for an annual check up on my eyes, everything was good but he needed to ask me if I had any questions at least. You really feel the "hurd em in hurd em out" focus at this clinic.

It went well. The whole office was very friendly and upbeat. I had to wait, but didn't mind. Although at the end of the appointment Dr. Kim advised me not to make late appointments as he is very busy. The ladies in the glass shop that's connected had asked if I was going to be looking at glasses and I was going to and said so. I was informed, "OK, we will stay late", which of course made me feel guilty. So I went in a bought the 3rd pair i tried on, hope they look good!
