Dr. Sheldon L. Gonte is a local of the Sterling Heights area. He performs state of the art cataract, glaucoma, diabetic, eyelid, and cosmetic surgery. With twenty years of LASIK eye surgery under his belt, Dr. Gonte is a veteran in his field. Dry eyes are treated with advanced technology and all surgeries are performed in a highly specialized surgical center nearby. Dr. Gonte continues his education by attending ASCRS and AAO seminars and, in addition, he has been a guest lecturer at several conferences.
Dr. Gonte grew up in Southfield, MI and lives with his three children and his wife of 25 years. Dr. Gonte participates in a variety of activities and sports and he enjoys basketball, tennis, squash, golf and gardening. Dr. Gonte is passionate about giving back and is active in a number of charities. His practice treats all patients with the care and consideration that they would treat a member of their own family. Didn't take the time to understand my condition (couldn't even pronounce it correctly), dismissive of my concerns, very rushed appointment in which I was told I either had dry eyes or retinal detachment. Concluded my appointment with a recommendation that I search Google for additional concerns and then charged me a very large deductible.

I haven’t had my eyes checked in a very long time so I didn’t know what to expect, especially with everything going on. All of the staff were masked and sanitizer was set out. Both waiting rooms were well kept and clean. All of the staff I saw today were kind and had great bedside manner. They talked me through step by step what they were doing next during the exam so I knew what to expect. In and out much quicker than I thought. I would highly recommend checking them out. Thank you Dr Gonte and staff !

I was sent out with my eyes still dilated without sunglasses, they didn’t do the leg work on my insurance so I had to wait to get that done. Told the doctor I was only there for a new prescription, I had to ask twice to have it done, was charged for getting the prescription and had to take my contacts out 3 different times since they couldn’t listen to my request. I will not be back.

First thing he asked me when he came in the door was if I am here because of my diabetes. I do not have diabetes. I have been through hell and back over the last 6 months, going from doctor to doctor because of an unknown illness that has completely disrupted my life, and I just needed a little kindness today. He was incapable of showing any of that. Very insensitive and judgemental. Was in the room for maybe 3 minutes. The whole time he felt the need to give his two cents on obesity and actually had the nerve to tell me to stop over eating. This guy knows nothing about me or my health issues or why I became this way. I just needed to get my eyes looked at. If he kept the topic on what I was there for, I might have given a more kind review. I can say though that the ladies in the office are nice. But this guy needs some sensitivity training. You don't treat people like that. Period.
