Dr. Ruiz was born in San Juan Puerto Rico. She attended Marywood College in Scranton, Pennsylvania and received a Master's Degree in Nutrition from Michigan State University. For three years she held the title of Director of the Expanded Nutrition Program in Kent County, for Michigan State Unviersity Cooperative Extension Service.
She was directly responsible for teaching nutrition to under-priviledged famlies. Later, Ms. Ruiz attended Ponce School of Medicine in Puerto Rico. Her residency was well-rounded. She trained at Polyclinic Medical Center in Harrisburg, PA and All Children's Hospital in St. Petersburg, FL.
She has worked with the Pinellas County Health Department and the Ruskin Health Center and has written extensively about health, nutrition and family medicine.

I established Dr Sonia as my daughter’s new pediatrician, since we are new to the area. I like her honesty and how stern she is. I don’t like that I provided FML paperwork, to make sure I can be available to care for my child, rather it be doc appointments or illness, and they are questioning the validity of my request, and have yet to fill out my paperwork!! I have a right to make sure I’m available to take care of my child!!! Unsure that I would recommend.

Dr. Ruiz has been my sons pediatrician for over 20 years. She helped discover his diagnosis of Hurler Syndrome and played a vital role in his continuing health issues over the years. Excellent physician and ALWAYS puts the needs of her patients first. Thank you Dr. Ruiz for your exceptional care.

The wait was expected with all the kids doing there school physicals but the office staff is wonderful very chatty so the time flies. And Dr Sonia is amazing very caring and detailed when listening to the child and the parents concerns. Love her and suggest her as a Doctor

Well I have a 3 month old & I went to dr Ruiz to get her ears pierced , I had my 6 year old niece with me n my mom (daughters nana ) so before she started to get my daughters ears cleaned she asked my mom (nana ) to take my 6 yo niece outta the room now that I understood because the dr didn’t want the 6 yo watching us hold my 3 month old down ...... so I was holding my camera so I could video it that’s what I wanted to have a video of her getting her ears pierced .. The doctor wanted me to help hold my daughter and another person was in the room to hold my daughter as well while she pierced her ears and there was another person in there that could’ve have held the camera and she would not let me take a video I was not happy about that .... Maybe if she gave me an explanation on why I could not videotape it I would’ve been a little more understanding but I got no explanation at all....

She was absolutely wonderful. My daughter panicked having blood drawn and Dr. Ruiz was calm and collected and handled the situation very well. The nurses and staff were extremely helpful and very polite. I would absolutely recommend these folks !!!

Doctor is a little bit tough but we as parent need that sometimes. Great attitude and service in general; great staff; Doctor is very knowledgable. Bottom line, will totally recommend her.

I was the only person in the office for 30 minutes waiting to be seen. Two families came in after 30 minutes and both were taken back before my daughter was. The doctor was rude and condescending. I returned to my kids pediatrician 50 minutes away instead of going back here.

very long wait - over 2 hours - NO explanation or apologies from the staff or dr on what was taking so long - do they routinely OVERBOOK and hope someone does not show? drs time may be valuable, but I consider my just as valuable, if not more so

The only reason I had to wait longer is due to filling out new patient forms. After that I was in right away. This office very friendly and super helpful. Dr. Ruiz is courteous and took time to listen to my concerns about my son. Generally my kids see the nurse practitioner and not the doctor, this was the first time they got meet their doctor. Very happy to have found this office.

She is a great doctor who listens to your concerns and does her best to find the answers, She figured out that my sons issues were totally different from what his previous doctor thought!! Still bad but so much could have been avoided from the beginning if we had been lucky enough to have her back then!! Definitely keeping her for the kids!
