Office staff was super helpful and very accomodating.
Dr. Sherman is always professional, thorough and kind. His staff is also great - friendly, efficient, and willing to take the time to explain things.
I loved my visit. The only thing I left the visit a bit confused about was that even though the doc gave me an eye glass RX he told me I dont need to fill it since I already have eye glasses from before. Even after I told him that those glasses do nothing for me!
Beware of the refraction test fee(not covered by insurance) - I went there for a eye infection! but still got applied the refraction test and the associated fee. The doctor's good - but If it wasnt urgent i wouldnt have chosen this
There was a loooooong wait, and then I didn't feel the doctor took any time to explain anything or talk to me, just rushed me through without explaining tests or diagnoses or why I was being referred to a specialist. I also specifically asked not to get the refraction because I didn't need a prescription, and they tried to do it anyway.
Every patient is different. He is worth the wait!!!
Everyone is always pleasant, efficient, easy top be with, thorough. And I always feel as if they are taking wonderful care of my eyes..... so important.
The doctor maybe very professional, but is trying to suck payment. My wife met this doctor for conjunctivitis treatment, but the doctor performed refraction test without asking her, and then billed for the test, saying the insurance company won't cover it. We asked the receptionist to file claim, who was really annoying to do so. In the end, the test was covered by insurance, but still the test fee is not reimbursed. We are really annoyed by this. I won't recommend meeting this doctor.
My appointment with Dr. Sherman was fantastic. I had an emergency situation which he resolved right away and then took the time to fully evaluate the health of my eyes. The office staff is friendly and helpful. Going forward, Dr. Sherman will be my primary eye doctor.
I would recommend Dr. Sherman to anyone in a heartbeat. He was so kind and sweet and his staff was amazing! A very welcoming and friendly environment indeed!
Professional, In depth and caring….
Dr. Spencer Sherman is a true professional and I rate him as one of the tops in his field. His practice keeps up to date with new technology and after a visit you feel that every possible issue that could affect your vision has been checked thoroughly.
Very professional doctor. Thorough, patient, and even elegant. Explained observations well, followed by very detailed multiple tests. Nurses and staff were nice too. Highly recommend.
I visited Dr. Sherman's office to do my general eye exam. I had to wait approximately 20 minutes to get called in. The exams were very throughout, they explained what I see on the pictures. Overall I was satisfied with the staff and Dr. Sherman. I can definitely recommend his office.
Dr. Sherman and the nurses were very kind. I had a problem with my left eye for two years now and no other doctor as been able to fix it. Dr. Sherman prescribed me treatment and within two weeks and two visits my problem was fixed.
One of the less impressive eye exam facilities and staff I've been to. Long wait, old methodologies, and very expensive. Way above market even for Manhattan.
Dr. Spencer seems professional, but his receptionist is very rude. From the moment you enter the office, she acts as if the patients are an extreme inconvenience to her.
I have never experienced worse customer service or professionalism from any doctor in my entire medical experience. Everyone in this office, in particular Mai, the contact lens "expert", and Cecelia, the office "manager", is highly incompetent, rude and just plain not helpful. I embarked on a process to be fitted for astigmatic contact lenses at the recommendation of Dr. Sherman (not at my inquiry at all). It's been nearly 6 months and I still don't have contacts that fit me properly. They are not even capable of re-ordering the last batch that did somewhat work for me. In fact, they told me they would not be able to continue this process - they basically gave up - even though I already paid for this process. So I am left with no contacts that work for me and have dealt with much psychological and emotional stress in the meantime. Please do yourself a favor and never step foot into this office. I certainly wish I hadn't.
I feel completely taken in by this office. They did not inform me that they would not give me my contact lens prescription without an extra expensive contact lens fitting until after I had already had the visit and paid for it. Then they insisted on the most expensive contact lenses, even though I said that I wanted a different brand. I do not recommend this office to anyone.
This doctor has no bedside manners whatsoever and does not know how to properly deliver and explain to the patient the issue at hand. Comes accross as arrogant, impatient and uncaring that dislikes being questioned and probed for more information on the problem. Avoid at all costs.
Dr. Sherman was thorough, friendly, and clearly communicated his findings in a respectful manner, including a referral to two other specialists to rule out or confirm his possible diagnoses. Do be aware that there may be charges which insurance doesn't cover; when I brought to the attention of a staff member initiating various tests that I would not be paying for anything not covered by my insurance, she said "okay" -- but then, the front desk tried to charge me anyway. They were not successful in this endeavor.
A great experience during the entire process. Was taken in immediately and had proper tests done. He listened to me and fully explained things. Took the time to answer all my questions.
I made a same-day appointment after experiencing troubling flashes in my vision. Dr. Sherman examined me thoroughly and recommended I see a retinal specialist, which he arranged so that I could be treated right away. The office is well-appointed and all the staff were helpful and professional.
It was my first time. I had an emergency and walked in earlier than my allocated time. Told receptionist of my ER concern. Dr Sherman saw me right away and thoroughly examined and tested my eyes. Was glad it was not serious so I can get back to work. Much appreciated the staff and Doctor's prompt Care for my situation. Highly recommending Dr Sherman
Dr. Spencer Sherman has been my Opthamolagist for ten years. He has provided me with highest quality eye care with consistancy all this time. I trust his knowledge and diagnosis. Mary P
Dr. Sherman seemed competent, but didn't treat me like a human being. He and his staff ordered me around and didn't explain anything. I'm several weeks out and am still trying to get a receipt for my visit (there are discrepancies in bills) and contacts that have the right prescription - this will be their third try. The office staff is beyond rude - the office manager just had me in tears trying to schedule an appointment. If I can ever get my contacts I will run away from here and not be back.
The doctor was quick and thorough. The receptionist tried to overcharge me for the copay.. twice.. So be careful to check how much your insurance covers so that they don't overcharge you! When I corrected her she started giving me attitude. Great doctor but he needs to get a more competent receptionist.
Very professional and thorough, would recommend.
Dr. Sherman saw me right away and had a nice, clean, and calm office environment. I would highly recommend him.
He gave me a very thorough eye exam. Staff very friendly and courteous.
Ridiculous wait time every time I go. Fed up.
Very thorough examination! I was impressed.
Very professional, friendly and extra attentive.
Awful, awful experience. I went to Dr. Sherman because my regular eye doctor was not available. I had an eyelid infection and was looking to get additional medication to clear it up, because what I was on (steroids and oral antibiotic) was not helping. I went into the office and was forced to sign the "refractory fee agreement" if the doctor was to write me an eyeglasses prescription. I signed it, knowing I would not need an eyeglasses prescription because I was there for an eyelid infection, and I said to the receptionist, "I will sign this because I won't be needing this today anyway." I went to see the doctor and explained all my symptoms. Instead of examining my eyelid, he began giving me an eye exam. Then I was taken by an assistant for more tests and I told her I do not need these tests and an eye exam because I already had an eye exam this year. She said to complain to the doctor. I told the doctor I did not want to be charged for an eye exam because I already had one this year (which I told him multiple times prior), and my medical insurance only covers medical problems (i.g. eyelid infection), which was the only reason I was there. Eye exams are out-of-pocket and I can only afford one per year. He smirked and said, "Well, that's not my problem. It's not like you are out shopping on the Avenue." What does that even mean? He then wrote me a prescription for glasses which I specifically declined and charged me the refractory fee! He did eventually give me antibiotics for my eyelid, but this was all I needed - not all those other tests and prescriptions! I was charged for all the extra eye-vision tests that I told both the doctors and assistants that I did not need. This was the worst experience I ever had a doctor's office. Expensive and unnecessary on so many levels. Dr. Sherman was rude and condescending, and I would NEVER go back to him.
Dr. Sherman was phenomenal! I went for a second opinion on my cataracts (super uncommon for 33yr old). He explained everything very, very comprehensively. He also gave me great comfort that my forthcoming surgery will go well, and I've decided to have my surgery done by him. Very highly recommended!!
Dr. Spencer and his staff were courteous, informative, and made the visit move both comfortably and smoothly. I will be back and I recommend their services to all.
Spencer Sherman MD helped me gain courage when I needed it the most. He was considerate and quite understanding of me and my visit! In fact, I am scheduled for another visit soon!
I felt extremely comfortable with the doctor--he seemed very knowledgable and gave me great advice for a complicated eye problem. In fact, everyone in the office was extremely knowledgable and kind!
This doctor's team was very kind, and overall the experience was fine. Two concerns that I had were 1) the difficulty of getting a prescription for my contacts (a nurse had to chase down the doctor, so to speak, to make sure I left with an actual prescription) and 2) 1800Contacts informed me that when they contact this doctor for prescription verification, they never respond, which adds a few extra days to the processing of my contact lens orders. If you don't need lenses, this doctor is a-okay; if you do, be aware that a few extra steps will be needed to secure your lenses.
Dr. Sherman is so nice! and so smart. love him :)
CON ARTISTS! Be careful what you sign, they fail to mention that they are heavily charging you for things, and give you phony services that you don't ask for. I went in for a vision test to renew my drivers license, and they failed to mention that they would be dilating my eyes, and that I wouldn't be able to see for 4 hours. He offered me "reverse" drops which he claimed "wont hurt at all" but it felt like acid was being poured into my eyeballs. Stay away from here. What a horrible nightmare of an experience. Receptionists are also miserable and nasty, I hope they read this and get an attitude adjustment.
Staff were pleasant. Doctor was to the point but friendly. Was a good visit.
I had a wonderful experience with this medical doctor! I am very lucky that I was able to find such an experienced and respected doctor through this website. I was truly impressed and feel relieved to know that I can trust the eye care I receive from him.
Front office staff is rude, and not friendly. Doctor Sherman is very approachable, and appears highly capable, although at times it felt as if he was reading from a script.
It was easy and quick to make an appointment. The doctor saw me exactly on time and he and his staff were very courteous. I am glad I met Dr. Sherman and shall continue to visit him as necessary.
I needed lots of baseline tests today since it was my first visit with Dr. Sherman. Dr. Sherman was very thorough and informative. His staff was really friendly and efficient, and despite the many tests I needed, I was in and out of there very quickly. My whole visit was terrific. Excellent front desk staff, too. The office was clean and comfortable.
Wow, my husband and I just had the best eye appointment that either of us has had. Dr. Spencer was so thorough and his entire staff was helpful with eye exams and state of the art testing. Dr Spencer is very knowledgable and friendly. In over sixty years, he really has been the best. Thank you!
This is the most complete eye exam I have ever had. Wow. Everyone was super helpful with my eye exam and tests. Dr Sherman is professional, kind, and listens to concerns and puts your mind at ease.
Dr. Sherman was so sweet and very professional. Best eye appointment I've ever had! Highly recommend!
Very nice experience.
They were very considerate. When I said that I was in a rush to get back to work, they made sure to guide me through all the tests as quick as possible.
For nearly 20 years, I'd been to a handful of different doctors and none of them could get my contact prescription to 20/20. In my first visit, Dr. Sherman changed my lense type and nailed the prescription. It felt like seeing a different world. Needless to say, I'll be thankful for the rest of my life.
My visit at Dr. Sherman's office was wonderful! I would highly recommend him to anyone. He was absolute professional and took the time to reply my questions. I did not wait more than 5 minutes to. He is an ophthalmologist that you can tryst 100% given his experience and competency. Wonderful! Wonderful! Wonderful!
A wonderful compassionate doctor who gives one much confidence in what he is doing, brilliant man
Very professional & polite, took his time to answer all my questions.
Dr. Sherman was great. The office was a little hectic and the front desk staff could have been friendlier, but Dr. Sherman's expertise far outweigh this inconvenience.
The doctor was very nice but the people running the practice were rude. The copay higher than expected and there were additional fees. Practice will hold my daughter's RX hostage while we double check with our insurance company. My wish is that these hidden fees would be included on ZOC DOC, or if this is not possible, a phone call from the practice would help patients to make informed decisions before going to an appointment. I am furious and I will not go back to this practice.
Good man! Thorough, explained each procedure & test portion; staff was similarly friendly, considerate, and efficient. I'll be seeing him for my annual eye exam going forward!
Very good overall, happy with his service
Doctor is very kind and patient, willing to answer any questions. Office was a little busy when I was there.
Refused to release my prescription so that I could get contacts at another location. Staff never got back to me about trial lenses that were allegedly on order for me after multiple followups.
Went for a basic, already diagnosed eye infection. His office under his direction did testing that was unnecessary to treat my condition. I had those same tests done 6 weeks ago at another doctor. Needless and expensive. Would not recommend this practice.
Visited Dr. Sherman for an emergency issue today. He and his staff are extraordinarily professional, kind and thorough. His office is quite nice, latest equipment, clean, etc. My case needed additional attention from a surgical specialist. Dr. Sherman was able to get me an appointment with him immediately. I also must note that Dr. Sherman is the best-dressed, most dapper doc on the Upper East Side! He's a great guy and a great doc - tons of experience - super knowledgeable - cant go wrong here...
I will never go back to this doctor. From the beginning he nor the receptionist would listen to a thing I said. Because I needed to return to my office after the optometrist, I specifically asked to NOT have my eyes dilated. Needless to say, not only did he dilate them, but did not warn or tell me so I could prevent it. I also went to the office for contact fittings, but they only gave me a glasses prescription and I had to take an extra trip back for another fitting. They do not listen!!
I just had my first appointment with Dr. Sherman, and I am very pleased with my experience. It has been two years since I've seen an ophthalmologist, and I went in for a general check-up. Dr. Sherman is very thorough and conscientious, and he quickly uncovered a few issues. His staff is also very professional, pleasant and friendly. I know my eyes are in good hands.
Dr. Sherman was straightforward & efficient, explaining each test before he performed it and talking me through the results. I was seen within a few minutes of arriving and the entire appointment (which was comprised of about six different eye tests) was over in 45 minutes (allowing for about 10-15 minutes for various drops to take effect). At the end he was reassuring and professional. I'd recommend him
Dr. Sherman is incredible. I made an emergency, same-day eye appointment and he took amazing care of me. His office has an impressive array of testing and diagnostic equipment and he did more tests than I ever knew existed. He was concerned about something else based on his exam of my eye and personally made calls to several other doctors to make sure that I would get the best care possible and that I would get that care right away. I cannot possible thank him enough. I very highly recommend him.
Dr. Sherman was fantastic! It was my first eye exam and he answered all my questions and made me feel at ease. His demeanor and attitude was very professional throughout the time there, I really felt like I was in good hands. The staff in the office was wonderful also - the people behind the desk were friendly and the assistants were knowledgeable and professional. For picking a doctor based off nothing but Zocdoc reviews, I think I made a great choice.
I felt Dr. Sherman and all staff were knowledgeable and helpful.
Excellent appointment. Great staff that were kind, knowledgeable, and on time.
Dr. Sherman and his staff were very thorough, non-rushed, and attentive. Highly recommend.
Fantastic eye appointment. I'll be going back. Excellent and professional staff. Comprehensive test. Very very impressive.
A consummate professional. Dr. Sherman is a skilled and friendly physician. The office staff is very friendly as well and speedy - I was not kept waiting. I would highly recommend Dr. Sherman for anyone needing an Ophthalmologist.
Very professional, nice staff. Easy effortless experience with professional feed
He try to give me a contact lenses when I have catarats and needed a sergury.
Dr. Sherman was great. The whole experience in his office was first class.
Very professional, very nice, intelligent, would definitely recommend.
Dr. Sherman was very thorough and reassuring in explanation and test. A very pleasant waiting space with spectacles of presidents. :)
Very professional, knowledgeable, a real gentleman
I was very disappointed by my appointment. I had previously scratched my eye, and was simply looking for an Ophthalmologist to look at my eye and let me know whether it had healed yet (and if I could start wearing contacts again). My normal Opthalmologist was unavailable that day, but told me it should be a quick check-up with any other doctor using a microscope instrument. Although I explained this to everyone I encountered at the office that day, I was given a full examination with various unnecessary vision tests, and at the conclusion was told that even though my eye was completely healed, 1. I needed different (more expensive) contacts than the ones I usually use, 2. that the office could fit me for (for a fee) to be fitted for those contacts, and 3. I need perscription eye drops to keep my contacts moist throughout the day. These recommendations had nothing to do with my eye scratch as I was fully healed. I am very happy with my current contacts and have had no problems with my vision. I had no need for (and did not ask for) a change in my contacts. I felt that, even though I was there for a simple eye check, the office was trying to extract money from my appointment by pushing me towards unnecessary contact changes and perscription drops. Everyone at the office seems very knowledgeable, so I left happy knowing that my eye had fully healed, however was extremely frustrated with the other tests/pressures. I will not go back.
MD Spencer I think was very kind and had great bed side manner but he did not explain much about my symptom and as to why I'm suffering. Receptionist was also kind of rude.
Gentle, concerned, attentive--everything you could want in a doctor
Happy to go back. Good reception staff, nurses, and doctors.
Dr. Sherman is one of my favorite doctors in the world. He explains every test he does, is very polite and warm and always available for questions. His always booked yet never rushed you through appointment. He is absolutely wonderful!
I thought he was great. Knowledgable, patient, and thorough.
Dr. Sherman is a great doctor with a nice demeanor. He makes me feel very comfortable and cared for.
Knowledge and very thorough examine. I would definitely recommend Dr. Sherman to anyone!
Very nice office, friendly staff. Doctor is experienced and easy to talk with. Left feeling comfortable.
My visit to Dr. Sherman's office was the first time I had ever gone to an opthamologist. My experience included meeting with him to discuss my visit (5 mins), meeting with his nurse to receive a battery of eye exams (15 mins), then meeting with Dr. Sherman again to go over the exam results and any questions I had (10 mins). While I felt the doctor and his staff gave me ample attention and answered all my questions, I couldn't help but walk away with a "cold" and "impersonal" feeling. Maybe it was because it was my first time, but I've definitely had other first-experiences that were more personal and filled with enthusiasm.
I got to my appointment a few minutes early and was taken exactly on time. Very thorough examination.
Amazing doctor and staff!! 10 stars!
This office is very sufficient. I spent more money that expected because they did some internal tests which are not covered by insurance and gave me some medicine that is distributed through the office but I hope it will improve vision..
Dr. Sherman is very professional, thorough and friendly. Very good experience..his nurse was very kind and professional as well.
Dr. Sherman quickly caught a potentially blinding injury to my eye (I had no symptoms) and set me up with a specialist & surgeon the same day. He is professional and courteous.
Doctor refused to give me the rx for the contact lens that has been working for me for years. He must be paid by one contact lens company.
Very good overall experience
He was great and everybody there was highly professional and friendly.
Dr. spencer was a very professional and intelligent doctor. What made the visit great was his nurses. Mai and Cecillia were fantastic and so friendly. I look forward to eating my eyes checked again!
I was very pleasantly surprised when I was seen by Dr. Sherman only 10 minutes past my appointment time. The reception staff was warm, welcoming and professional.
I did not think he was proffesional at all and he was quite rude and and I would not want to go to visit him again. The staff on the other hand was great.
Great! Set me at ease about my eyelid/eye, and was very thorough in examining.
Dr. Sherman is very nice and thorough. However, I had to wait around 20 minutes to intially see him and then once my eyes were dialated waited another 45 to go back in! His nurses were very apologetic as was he but I ended up being there almost 2 hours in total. I think I'll go back but call ahead next time to make sure he's running on schedule.
His objective is profit maximization. While I don't doubt he is a good doctor, he will en
The doctor was one of the nicest doctors I've ever met. I was extremely impressed by his good manners. The receptionists and staff were just as nice and pleasant.
This is a busy office with a crowded waiting room, and appointments are managed in stages with return to the waiting room a number of times. It seems well-run, and given the time necessary to dilate eyes, etc., the process is efficient. There seem to be many high-tech gadgets for taking images of your eyes. Others have mentioned the clerical staff, but they seemed to respond to friendly greetings and were efficient. My only suggestion would be that they add a few large-print periodicals or picture books to the materials in the waiting room -- most patients will have drops in their eyes.
Dr. Spencer Sherman was very nice and highly professional. He made all the tests and explained the results to me and prescribed medication. I would definitely recommend him to my friends and relatives.
Very good, but I only required basic services.
Great office staff and Doctor! Would highly recommend!
Couldn't have been more thorough or more professional.
I thought Dr. Sherman was great. Very organized, clearly knows his stuff, a super nice guy and very thorough. My father practiced optomolagy for many years and I know he would highly respect Dr. Sherman.
Very professional and kind.
Very kind and seemingly experienced physician. He didn't do a great job of explaining anything. Even when I asked questions, they were short brief answers as he tried to move away back to his office. Didn't tell me exactly what was going on and referred me to another physician for eyelids who doesn't take insurance. His office is very staticy (got shocked a few times). All in all, a very average visit.
He's a very smart and professional doctor. He is using up to date technology that can better see eyes' condition. He is very welcoming, making sure your comfortable. Well informative on procedures. **Staff were great and very kind.
Great Doctoer and very personable. Not a long wait time at all.
Dr. Sherman displayed very professional bedside manner and explained each step of the process!
Excellent doctor, excellent facilities. A kind and professional man.
Dr. Sherman and his staff were exceptionally kind, thorough, and professional. The office and equipment are clean and organized. I am very happy I decided to try an appointment with him. I am also glad I tried zocdoc.
Very thorough and pleasant!
He was very professional yet down to earth. I also liked that I was told what each test was and explained why it was useful.
He was very professional and my eye problem cleared up using the medications he prescribed.
