At UC Davis, Dr. Bunas became fascinated with a device for patients with kidney failure – a home dialyzer – while obtaining a BS Degree in Chemical Engineering. Pursuing this interest in biomedical engineering, he studied medicine at the UNC School of Medicine and was awarded his MD degree.
After an internship at Scripps Mercy Hospital, Dr. Bunas completed his residency training in Dermatology at the OHSU Hospital in Portland. Adept at surgery, he went on to complete a fellowship in Dermatologic Surgery at Duke University. He moved back to the Northwest and worked in group practices in Richland and Bellevue. In 1996, Dr. Bunas started his own General Bellevue Dermatology practice in Bellevue. He lives in Kirkland and is an avid golfer and snow skier.

I am am on file as a patient from a different location, so when I saw available time slots advertised online at the Bellevue office, I thought it would be easy to get the appointment. The first time I attempted to schedule via Zocdoc, it was for a time slot 2 days later, but that appointment was canceled via Zocdoc without explanation. The next time, I saw availability advertised as a same day appointment in the afternoon. I called the number listed on the site, and verbally confirmed the appointment before showing up. The receptionist did not apologize for the system glitch or acknowledge the inconvenience. Instead, she explained to me in patronizing terms how dermatologist appointments typically take months. And "Do you have a primary care physician?" She offered no recourse on how I could get an appointment at that office, and referred me down the hall to another dermatologist with whom I have no patient relationship. I will not return, which I think was the desired effect.
