Dr. Friedell founded Northwestern Women’s Health Associates in 1989. He is affiliated with Northwestern University as an assistant professor of clinical Obstetrics and Gynecology with privileges in general OB/GYN at Northwestern Memorial Hospital/Prentice Women’s Hospital. He is an accomplished gynecological surgeon and is proficient in minimally invasive surgery and robotic gynecologic surgery. He has many years of experience in office gynecology and treating women’s problems.
He graduated from University of Illinois with Honors, Magna cum Laude, and Phi Beta Kappa. He completed his Doctor of Medicine at the University of Chicago, Pritzker School of Medicine. He then completed his Obstetrics and Gynecology residency training at Northwestern University where he served as Chief Administrative Resident. After founding the practice and joining faculty at Northwestern, he has been managing partner of Northwestern Women’s Health Associates. Dr. Friedell has served on many committees at Northwestern including: Prentice Leadership Committee, Labor and Delivery Task Force, Gynecology Quality Management Committee, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology Quality Management and Peer Review Committee. He is a fellow of ACOG and is Board Certified.
As a general OB/GYN, Dr. Friedell's goal is to provide comprehensive obstetrical and gynecologic care for women in a comfortable environment. He believes that making good medical decisions requires open communication and developing a partnership with patients. This will ensure a mutual understanding of medical problems and treatment options so women understand their medical issues. I agree with the other 1 star review - my experience with this doctor was very uncomfortable. I had to wait for an hour to be seen. His bedside manner was very condescending and the exam was aggressive and painful. He did a pelvic exam which was not necessary for the issue I came in for. He also turned his back to me afterwards and sat on his computer without talking to me while I was still undressed. After 10 mins I interrupted and asked what he was doing and he said he was filling my prescription. I don’t know why he needed to do that in the room while I still had no pants on.

I trusted the Dr because he was very thorough about reviewing my chart from the first time I saw him until present. Was easy to communicate with and apologized about the long wait to be seen (several times). Gave clear explanation of my conditions and offered easy to follow instructions about medication.

He was very apologetic about the long wait but I wasn’t seen by him until 4:15 for a 3:00 appointment. Once he came in, he was lovely and thorough and clear.

Dr. Friedell was beyond phenomenal. After being bounced from bad doctor to bad doctor I found Dr. Friedell. He is the best doctor!! He cares about helping his patients and provided me the perfect treatment plan without alarm. He took his time and got a comprehensive understanding of my issues. What a blessing it was to find him!

I was able to get a same day appointment for IUD removal after getting the run around from my doctor who placed it (was quoted a three month wait). Dr. Friedell went through all my different options for birth control, listened to my thoughts and concerns, and came up with a plan we were both comfortable with.

I truly felt uncomfortable with this doctor. I felt like my concerns were not taken seriously and I was talked down to, and felt stupid asking questions about my own body.
I was fully undressed for my exam, and he said in a joking manner "Oh I was supposed to ask if you wanted a chaperone in the room with me."
I was seen 30 minutes late, and I said I did not have time for an exam, as I was already running behind because of the doctor being late, and he insisted on an exam. I was also clearly uncomfortable during the exam and he did not notice and kept going.
As a woman, do not go to this doctor.

Doctor was kind and friendly and willing to answer questions. He moved quickly and made the private examinations comfortable and not awkward. He also listened to the concerns I had even though they may be unrelated to his field. He helped me by deciding to run some tests and showed me how to access the results. He and the entire staff were very attentive and kind. The lab techs struggled to take my blood, it they were very sweet and apologetic and every medical professional I’ve ever encountered has struggled to take my blood. They handled it well.

If you're looking for a new doctor, look no further. Dr. Friedell was an absolute professional. This was my first time having a male doctor and he made me feel extremely comfortable and at ease throughout my entire appointment. Dr. Friedell addressed every concern I had, and followed-up with me the very next day regarding lab results. Additionally, the staff was very friendly and there was NO wait time.
