Dr. Powers is a board-eligible staff-Psychiatrist at Talkiatry. She received her advanced medical degree from Adelphi University and completed her psychiatry residency training at SUNY Stony Brook University Hospital and Medical Center. She also holds a master’s degree in Developmental Psychology from Columbia University.
She has practiced in various settings over her career including treating adults in psychiatric inpatient, outpatient, and ER settings. She has worked intensively with PTSD in veterans. Dr. Powers was an attending at Zucker Hillside Hospital, Pederson-Krag, Brookhaven Memorial Hospital, Northport VA Medical Center, Nassau University Medical Center and Damian Family Care Centers. She held an academic appointment to Stony Brook University Hospital Medical Center as Associate Professor and was a clinical instructor for New York College of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Powers has instructed and supervised residents and medical students at multiple locations.
She has more than 18 years of experience providing patients with compassionate psychiatric care through pharmacotherapy and supportive therapy. The philosophy of her practice is to provide care and treatment to assist patients to fulfill their potential and improve the quality of their lives.

A polite but poor listener who does not respond well to being corrected. She had a long list of questions which gave me the initial impression that she was thorough. But she failed to ask clarifying questions, and only towards the end did I realize she was unable to process the details and complexities of situations described to her. When I tried to correct her, she became defensive and cited her years of experience.

The appointment was easy to book and I was able to get in the next day to speak with the doctor. The tele visit was easy to join and had no tech issues.
