Dr. Hart is a seasoned physician well versed in direct communication. Enjoyed his sense of humor as well as his clinical response to my questions. Am grateful for the sound advice on wholesome living he provided to me. Great find! Thank you Dr. Hart.
Extremely impressed. Dr. Hart saw me right away, and took the time to address all of my concerns. He's intelligent, has a wonderful sense of humor, and I trust him. I'm thrilled to have found a competent and caring doctor!
Amazing doctor. They don't make physicians like this anymore, unfortunately... Caring, insightful, professional while backed by a wealth of medical knowledge. Keeps it real without any influence form big pharma BS. Can't recommend him highly enough.
The doc was through and friendly I felt well taken care of.
Great guy, really took the time to make sure I understood what was going on with my body and shared practical tips that would help prevent future illness.
Stephen Hart is such a well-rounded, comical, "cynical", calm, pleasant and overall, intelligent and helpful. He tells awesome stories, suggests multiple solutions (highlighting diet and exercise) and is real with you. Definitely recommend.
I had to wait a little while but Dr. Hart was very personable and made me feel at ease. Very competent.
Dr. Hart is a fine Dr. I would highly recommend him to my friends and family. He was very helpful and made me feel at ease. Dr. Hart was knowledgeable and was more that just an M.D. Praises to a great find. :-)
I felt very comfortable and was able to discuss my health record. Dr. Hart provided some important information and was a good listener.
Dr. Hart is very much focused on science-based medicine, so he won't ask for a test just "to be doubly safe". He is well versed in the trade-offs involved, e.g. tests have false positives which can leave you in quite a limbo for months. And he is trying to keep you healthy through better nutrition etc. Exactly the kind of doctor I was looking for.
Like getting excellent medical care from an erudite Jeff Goldblum. Awesome.
I'm new to the area and I've found my doctor.
I felt very comfortable. He was kind, funny, and very professional. Totally recommended
I went in for a consultation with Dr. Hart and had a great experience. He was friendly, made me feel comfortable (it was my first trip to the doctor in over a decade), and we had a nice discussion. No wait time, either. I recently moved to California from the east coast and am happy to have found a doctor whom I like and trust.
Highly intelligent, vast reservoirs of knowledge and information, and cross-disciplinary approaches to healing. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit and feel confident that I can take charge of my long-term wellness as a practice and lifestyle, versus just a treatment.
Shares lots of knowledge with his patients. I really appreciated that.
The appointment was fine - not great, not bad. I got what I needed out of it, but I will not be returning as a regular patient. Lots of talking about things that weren't particularly relevant or of interest to me, and just assumed the appointment was over before allowing me to ask questions about the specific things I had come in to ask about. He did a fine job of checking those things out and letting me know what I needed to know, but having to stop him from leaving to ask didn't feel great. It felt less like a conversation and more like a lecture.
Doctor started late and rushed me out toward the end. While that alone would've been ok, he failed to realize that throat swabs needed to be done in the office rather than through the lab- so when I went to the lab later, for the primary purpose of getting a throat swab, they told me I should have already had it done in his office. That's pretty mediocre, especially considering my chief concern for the appointment was my throat concern.
In my experience, I've found that doctors can be roughly divided into one of two general camps: those who bandage the problem, and those who try and solve the root cause. Dr. Hart belongs to the latter group. He's an excellent doctor.
I am a first timer with the Dr. When I arrived I received a very friendly welcome. I did not have to wait long to see the doctor. He was quite pleasant. I will see him again and hope that everything turns out well.
I thought he was great. He is, as some other reviewers have mentioned, talkative -- he likes to explain stuff and occasionally runs off on a tangent -- but if you like getting a little extra knowledge (as I do) and enjoy having what feels like a REAL discussion and relationship with your physician, I'm not sure you could do much better.
very funny and caring
Professional, very kind.
Very informative. Didn't rush me out the door. Good guy
He explained everything to me and he is real into nutrition.
I really enjoyed talking with Dr. Hart. I felt like I was in good hands, and I learned a lot.
Dr. Hart was extremely disrespectful and rude. He offended me personally and I would NEVER go to him again. Safe yourself the time and stay away.
He came off like a know it all, and when I told him that I was considering getting allergy treatment he said immunotherapy was 'bunk'.
Dr. Hart appears to be a knowledgeable doctor, but his intake process was frustratingly all over the place, unproductive, and well...baffling. Before even asking me what he could help me with today, he immediately starting talking about something in my past history based on what he read in my intake form and then went off into many, many tangents. I really just wanted a direct conversation about this is why I am here- my present health concern based on symptoms, with some past health context, and treatment. But it was really hard to get a word in and not have the conversation completely go off track. He was talking so much and making assertions and judgments about me that weren't accurate, and when I tried to provide context and explain my symptoms, experiences, actual medical record, he would cut me off and then at some point abruptly reprimanded me for not being a good listener. Which almost made me laugh because he clearly wasn't interested in hearing relevant info from the patient- even when he had asked me a question! He concluded with- he didn't have enough time and he couldn't help me. He just wrote it off as stress and diet (which he clearly didn't try to hear me explain I am happy, eat cleanly (I study nutrition), and do a lot to relax and take care of myself to reduce stress). I tried to ask some questions about his views on treatment for my case but he wouldn't answer- he just sent me on my way. To his credit, he offered to refund the co-pay (which I didn't have anyway because I have to pay the bill in full anyway, darn). But I left thinking...what a strange whirlwind interaction- what exactly just happened??
'Doctor' Hart is a scoundrel. He is rude, arrogant, drunk off a sense of infallibility, and does NOT care about you. Not only did he accuse me of lying and forgery about a mistake he made by giving me his personal emergency pager number and then DID NOT tell me it was for emergencies only (I would most certainly not call an emergencies only number if it wasn't an emergency as long as I was informed of such), he then reused to see me after I called the number about a prescription concern (I thought the number was simply his direct office number, such that he was being nice and not making me have to through the front desk phone) because he would "never make such mistake." Even after I shared the picture of his card in which he wrote his pager number on, he refused to concede he made a mistake and continued to berate me. This exchange concerning the pager number was over email. Him in person is just an equal awful experience such that he essentially pushed me out of his office so he could get on with another patient because he was running behind although I wasn't done asking questions concerning my health, saying we'd have to schedule another appointment for follow up. Are you kidding me?! How obvious are you going to make it that you've just turned money hungry and lost the (hopefully) once true purpose of your profession - helping people. I am astounded that this man is allowed to practice medicine. After his heated exchange of accusations I told him I would write negative reviews of him, in which he replied, "anyone who writes reviews is akin to a whining dog." If you're looking for a doctor just because they carry your insurance (which is why I first saw him), pass on him and find someone else - he's not worth it. DO NOT SEE HIM! Please see reviews in Health Grades and Yelp for more comments that shed some light on this terrible man. "Bad riddance" to him.
Dr Hart is the best Doctor I have ever seen. He is Very knowledgeable , polite and even funny when kidding around but serious point gets thru. He has a true gift and I am lucky I found him. The office staff is very nice and accommodation.
Dr. Hart is very personable and knowledgeable. Within just 5 minutes, I could tell he is a great family doctor and primary care provider. Will visit for all my internal medicine needs.
Dr. Stephen Hart is very current on his specialty, he makes a good first impression. Also, he can teach others (even old adults) new medical information. I enjoyed my visit with Dr. Hart. I also got useful medical information which helped my health (on the first visit).
It took several months to find a competent, personable doctor when relocating from the East Coast to East Bay. I am too happy to have found Dr. Hart, and can't suggest him highly enough.
Very friendly and attentive. Always professional.
Dr. Hart was nice but I dislike waiting (20-mins without accounting for me coming in early) and my appointment was cut short because of this. He seems to care a lot for his patients and be willing to talk about areas outside of internal medicine/general medicine, but did not perform basic tests of blood pressure, heart rate, and other general tests. While Dr. Hart stressed for someone of my age and physical profile these are needed less frequent, it had me slightly worried after leaving the office. All together, Dr. Hart seems like a very nice person and to care a lot. I hope in the future I won't have to wait and can have more baseline tests and measurements done.
was very good.
This was my first visit, and I really liked Dr Hart. He was right on time, tested me right there and determined that I had Strep. He was also very thorough and spent time catching up with my last few weeks' history. He was pleasant too. ++
I saw Dr. Hart for frequent headaches. I got an appointment right away and there was no other patient when I went. That should have been my clue to turn around and leave. I visited his office for the first time and had a mediocre experience at every stage. The receptionist was cold and behaved like she hated working there. Usually on the first visit, they take the patient's vitals and since I went for headaches I thought blood pressure levels would definitely be checked. Nothing! They didn't check my weight or blood pressure. The doctor himself was ok. He is a nice person but not a great doctor. I followed up for some referral the doctor promised and he responded a month later! Who takes that long to respond to an email?! It just shows that neither the doctor nor his office takes the patients seriously. I am definitely never seeing him again and do not recommend him to anyone.
Dr. Hart is clearly very smart, is wonderfully friendly and relate-able. Service was excellent and he was very informative. Told me I need less stress in my life. Very Berkeley, but what did you expect.
Was great thanks for the connection of a great doctor.
Professional and informative
Unfortunately, there was a 30 minute wait beyond my appointment time. However, once it was my turn, Dr. Hart was thorough, and had a great bedside manner. He asked lots of questions, was friendly, and paid attention. I would recommend him based on my experience :)
Dr. Hart was incredibly friendly and very enjoyable to talk with. He sat down and spent several minutes chatting with me about my sore throat. I felt like he was willing to spend as much time as was needed with me and was very patient in talking with me. Furthermore he was very knowledgable, science-driven, not above criticizing money-based medicine and obviously very enthusiastic about his craft. I'm new to the area and have been fretting finding a new GP, but I think I have found him!
Wow. Good luck with him... ESCHEW! Don't leave your kids alone with that.
Wonderfully personable, shared some great stories about his background, and stressed how accessible he is. Definitely will be seeing him for future check ups.
Excellent doctor. Very intelligent and knowledgable.
He was late for appointment which shorted the time he was willing to spend with me. Typical old style Doctor who does not listen. prescription he was call I to RX was lost. second visit will tell me if I would recommend.
Dr. Hart is an absolute delight. I was very much put to ease by his easy disposition and genuine attentiveness.
Fast and to the point
Dr. Hart's straightforward approach is refreshing and a departure from most doctors.
Great doctor, understood my need and very easy to talk to.
Great! Very informative.
He was very informative, kind and listened to what I was saying. Didn't try to do everything in one visit but went thru all my concerns. I made another appointment in 3 weeks.
Very friendly and helpful.
Dr. Hart was very personable and kind. I was able to get an appointment right away which I really appreciated. I would suggest him for your medical needs.
He put me at ease, listened carefully to my concerns, and made great suggestions to improve my health. His suggestions were backed up by good science, but presented in a way that made it easy to understand. The online form made check-in quick and easy. Altogether, a great experience.
Very efficient. I saw him for travel vaccinations.
Great Doctor. Full of information. Clear and easly to understand. Very frendly. Live 40 miles away but worth the drive.
Having never seen Dr. Hart before, I managed to get an appointment with him immediately. He was pleasant, knowledgeable, and efficient. It was a very positive experience.
I really liked Dr. Stephen Hart. He was very nice, and very knowledgeable. I would recommend him to anyone who needed a primary care physician.
I did! I enjoyed my visit.. "Can't say that often enough." lol Dr Hart seems personable and has a good sense of humor. I feel good about putting my health in his hands. Calmer now.
He gave a lot of good information, made me feel comfortable, I had an overall great experience
Very pleasurable and informative experience.
Very knowledgeable and kind. Offered a plethora of interesting information and educated me some of the useful checks that I should be doing monthly.
Very detail oriented. Very friendly and approachable
Hey immediately told me I'm busy jury up with what you want
Stephen Hart is awesome. He is very thorough with his explanations but really listens / assesses the problem. He is not eager to give out unnecessary medications like some doctors just to get you out of the office. He wants to hear the full story and recommend alternatives such as diet and exercise before prescribing medication.
I appreciate that Dr. Hart takes a holistic approach, but I thought that he brought up topics that were irrelevant to the reason for my visit and I didn't find him to be particularly professional in his manner.
Staff was great, and he was wonderful. Took the time to listen and was very informative!!!!
No nonsense guy that did not make me wait long.
He's awesome! I wish he were on my insurance plan!
He spent the patients appointment time sitting on the phone, yelling at a customer service rep for an internet company. He would excuse himself from your appointment and leave you in the exam room while he delt with his internet issue. It was very unprofessional and made me feel uncomfortable hearing the dr. raise his voice and he came off as having a short fuse and other priorities than his patients. I would not see him again!
You want to hear this guy rant on about Biology in a condescending tone and not get your medical issue addressed? Then by all means, get an appointment with him. You can get an appointment with him at any time you'd like, since this guy has no patients and uses ZocDoc to get them. Don't be fooled like I was. The good doctors are busy because they are good. I have a low platelet count (which he didn't test me for), and pretty obvious symptoms and he told me to put together a food journal for 2 weeks. Then he told me to cut dairy out of my diet and I'd be fine. This guy is a joke. He also scheduled me an appointment on a Friday and cut it short saying he had a meeting he had to go to. Sorry that I was an inconvenience for you, guy. Not.
Very knowledgable and friendly doctor.
I was surprised that getting something cut off my face didn't hurt
Mr. Hart was patient, knowledgeable, gentle and understanding – and smart!! I felt in good hands and would recommend him to anyone.
He was a great doctor that I would definitely visit again and would recommend to anyone.
Dr. Hart was running behind and subsequently rushed through my visit.
He clearly cares and takes time to think about my situation. I am very happy to have found such a good primary care doc.
Very personable and patient. Definitely not one of those doctors who rush through your visit amd move onto their next one. He had suggestions for medications and improvement of general health, and made it clear that he was very easily reachable day or night and not to hesitate to call or email. How refreshing!
Friendly, well-informed doctor. Would visit again.
He was so great and reassuring and actually took time to talk about my environment and habits so we could figure out what was going on! I had been to 3 doctors who rushed me out as soon as they looked and thought they had figured it out, so Dr. Hart was such a welcome change from that. Im very pleased!
Very personable, easy to talk to. He was running a bit behind schedule but still took his time with me, I didn't feel rushed. He even gave me his card and let me know I could contact him any time, even when I'm out of the country.
Dr. Hart explained all the possible shots I would need for travel, as well as other ways to protect myself. I left the office feeling confident that I got the best information I could. He gave me his email to contact him if I needed the anti Malaria medication we discussed. I would recommend him to a friend, and I would see him again.
He was engaging and listened well and gave much info. He speaks VERY fast
I really like Dr. Stephen Hart. He has a great sense of humor, down to earth, he is very approachable and a good listener.
He is awesome!
I loved his personality, and from my first visit he seems to be a really good doctor. I will definitely be back (though hopefully not too soon)!
Dr. Hart was by far the most personable and genuine doctor I have ever encountered. I had quite a few medical issues that other doctors made me feel uncomfortable talking about, like it was just about money to them. But with dr. Hart I could tell that he cared about who I was as a person and what I wanted my future to look like. Once again, best doctor I've ever met. Thanks doc!
I just had an initial consultation to establish a relationship with a pcp in Berkeley, so I can't speak to his overall skill as a physician (though I have no reason to think he'd be anything but great). He was really nice and took his time to get to know me. He shared his email and encouraged me to get in touch anytime I need to.
Was there for immunizations. Very friendly, informative, pleasant and reasonable. Spent a lot of time with me, in fact our meeting ran over time.
Really nice to find a Doctor right away after relocating to the Oakland area. Dr. Hart is great
I was expecting more! I made an appointment for a sore throut problem, however, I visited an ENT doctor, so he has to check my ears, but he didn't!
No wait, very kind doctor who listens very well, I would go back to him for future issues.
Dr. Hart makes everything so comfortable, he asks lots of questions and listens to what you have to say. He's a very compassionate doctor who knows his stuff, I'm glad to have found him!
Great doc. Very thorough. Spent a lot of time and got a complete medical history even though he could have probably treated my sore throat hastily. Rare to see a doctor who operates in such a thoughtful way. Highly recommended.
Friendly, experienced, intelligent, knowledgeable, forthright, non-judgmental and was able to address multiple concerns in one visit. Reminded me somewhat of my family doctor growing up!
It was only for a referral, but I quickly warmed to Dr. Hart. I recently changed medical coverage and he was extremely welcoming and laid it all out on the table, telling me about what he did and what I needed to keep an eye on. I was getting a referral for allergies and he went off on a little tangent about allergens and immune systems that could have been very pedantic but did it in a way that I came out feeling like I learned something. I will definitely be going back for GP needs.
Great doctor with a lot of insight to share with his patients!
Dr. Hart is very thorough, and has a lovely warm bedside manner. The parking is paid, however $3 is well worth the convenience of parking on site. I was in and out in 1 hour, which in the grand scheme of things is quite speedy for a Dr.'s office, however as I was literally the only person there it seemed somewhat odd that I still had a wait in the waiting room and again in the Dr.'s room. Also it wouldn't cost much to get a People or a Cosmo subscription!! Great Zocdoc experience- will come again.
He basically told me that he did not believe in chemical imbalances, without even getting to know me and my symptoms. He spent half the consultation telling stories (un medical related) to try to prove his case. When he found out that I was from Texas, he started telling me all about the epidemic of teachers handing out ritalin to kids there. This anecdote (and my place of birth) should have no weight in determining a patient's needs. I started off by saying that I had not been to the doctor in a long while and the last time the doctor spent the whole time talking about my anxiety that I use to have, and no longer have, instead of helping me with what I was most concerned about. This doctor proceeded to do the same thing, spending half the session talking about my last doctors visit (in '08), and how effective the prescription that doctor gave me was. Overall the experience was very offensive, and was no help. He let his personal beliefs get in the way of serving his patient's needs.
Excellent doctor. Very thoughtful and sincere.
Unlike alot of doctors, Dr. Hart took a crazy awesome amount of time getting to know my history and took that into account as well. He didn't just glance at my current symptoms and leave it at that.
Very welcoming and warming
I felt like he was being very dismissive, after about ten minutes he just gave me a referral to another doctor and sent me on my way.
I had to get three vaccinations, all of which Dr. Hart administered pain-free. He definitely inspires confidence. I'd recommend him to anyone seeking a no nonsense visit to the doctors office.
Dr. Hart was very good humored and knowledgeable. I haven't seen a doctor in a long awhile, so he took his time and we went over all of my many, many concerns. He's also kind of geeky, in a good way of course, going into detail about how certain diseases arise (and how to best avoid them!) Others have mentioned that he was kind of preachy, but I didn't see it that way. He's an up-front kind of person, and tells you what you need to hear! I felt very at ease with him near the end of the visit and look forward to working with him again.
Dr. Hart was extremely kind and concerned, and gave me plenty of time and attention. I recommend him very strongly.
very attentive, good advice, very much at ease. Couldn't ask for better care.
Dr. Hart is very talkative, my time was up before I explained all my problems because he was lecturing me on common sense. I would probably not go back to him.
Highly recommend Dr. Hart. I was traveling from Washington, DC on my way to Indonesia with my family. I needed to get my son into see a doctor in the US, on short notice, Dr. Hart saw him. He gave excellent advice on my son's condition and also so tips to the family about taking care of ourselves on the flight and in Indonesia. If I lived in the Oakland/San Fran area I would make Dr. Hart our family doctor.
Seems like a good doctor, smart and caring.
D. Hart was friendly, smart, and instilled a sense of confidence in me. I am so grateful to have found him and will return.
Seems like a cool guy, easy personality to get along with for me. Very knowledgeable.
I enjoyed talking to Dr Hart. He is knowledgeable and personable. I've only been there for my initial visit, but so far so good.
I found Dr. Hart to be very knowledgeable but he didn't wait for me to finish a sentence and I felt judged about my lifestyle (which is NOT alternative or outlandish!) Overall, the appointment was pretty much a waste of time.
I was impressed; Dr was an educated professional providing clear concise diagnosis. I highly recommend Dr Hart.
he was very knolegble and found a solution for my daugheter that worked very well. besides he is very pleasant and caring clearly listening the patient.
He was very attentive. I was also impressed by the fact he gave me his email and has been attentive to me even when I am not in his office. I am continually apprehensive about finding new doctors; Doctor Hart proved my worries wrong.
So, I was suffering with acne for the past year and it was extremely devestating. I went to two different dermatologists, I've used six different types of topical creams/ gels (which were harsh on my face), and I've taken two different types of antibiotics. The result was nothing, it only cause severe dry patches on my face. Two weeks ago I went to Dr. Hart and he recommended a facial wash and prescribed a gentle topical gel to use once a day. And now two weeks later, my face finally looks amazing again. My acne is almost completely gone, I only have 5 pimples on my face.
He does not provide any additional clarity that you would get from a random web site.
Personable and informative.
