Dr. Stephen H. Ponas was born and raised in Kalamazoo, Michigan. He graduated from the University of Michigan Honors Program in 1984 with a degree in Chemistry. He received his MD from the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio in 1988. He did two years of general surgery training at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis from 1988-1990. He completed his Urologic Surgery training at Washington University in 1994. He has been practicing Urology in Phoenix, Arizona since 1994. His practice includes general adult Urology with particular interests in Urologic oncology including laparoscopic and robotic surgery, endourology, stone diseases and female urology.

Saw the doctor for a total of less than 5 minutes. Was basically shoed out the door and all of my concerns were brushed off. Clearly just wanted me out of the office as soon as physically possible, and didn't care at all about doing due diligence or listening to me in any capacity.

Scheduled the appointment on Zocdoc for a location way up near Anthem. I called the office after scheduling to confirm the appointment as I always have issues with Zocdoc. They confirmed my appointment verbally over the phone. I got my reminder email from Zocdoc with the address and time of the appointment the day before the appointment. I showed up and the suite was closed and locked. I called the number and they said that office is closed this day and aren't sure why it was booked at that location and that they have me scheduled in central phoenix which I have no way of getting to on time at this point and had to reschedule me for another location 5 hours later which meant missing an entire day of work rather than a half day.

My appointment was at 2:00pm. They brought me back to a room at 2:55pm. The doctor came in at 3:10pm. He spoke to me for less than 10 minutes and basically said I need to “make lifestyle changes” and come back in a month. Then after I waited another 15 minutes for him to come back and give me a lab order, he didn’t even come in the room—he opened the door and leaned in and handed me the paper. I tried to ask him a question and he kept walking and answer in the hallway.
When I tried to tell him my experience with a previous medication and some symptoms, he didn’t even let me finish my sentences.

Quick, curtious, and prompt. I do think that Zocdoc needs to provide a prompt to skip beyond Second Insurance coverage, which prevented me from obtaining and filling out the paperwork online prior to my appointment.

2:00 appointment was in room at 2:45. Doctor no where to be found until 3 in the room. He took maybe 60 seconds to talk and left. Didn’t know what I had wrong. Seemed he was making things up. Quickest doc visit ever been to talking with the doctor for less than a min.

His phone kept ringing and his eyes were glued to his phone as I was explaining my health concern and why I was there. I didn’t feel mad at the situation I just felt helpless. I felt like I went in there to pay my copay and that was it . No helpful feedback was given and I do not feel comfortable with someone who can’t even listen to my health concerns.

Dr Ponas listened to and answered my questions. He took his time and came back in again later to check with me. Also convenient was having my blood drawn there instead of having to go to a lab. Using Zocdoc, I was able to see the doctor a week early as they would honor the appointment even though by calling the office directly they had no openings until the following week.
