Maybe you need to explore the emotional impact of an illness, or, the effects of psychological and environmental stressors on your body (unexplainable physical complaints, professional burnout). In all these situations, consider a psychoanalytical consultation that begins with the doctor-patient relationship as the treatment of choice. I pay careful attention to what you say and how you say it. We build a library of resources to discover the "fine print" behind the many movements of your actions. We learn about your motivations; you teach me what kinds of conversations you have with yourself and with others. After 20+ years as a psychiatrist, psychotherapist and psychoanalyst, I have concluded that you won't learn as much about yourself using medications alone. In contrast, psychotherapy gives you the freedom to imagine, understand, organize and narrate your personal history in order to become your most creative and fulfilled self.
