Dr. Valerie Mechanik received her bachelor’s degree, Magna Cum Laude, and MD from USF’s Morsani College of Medicine and completed her residency in Obstetrics & Gynecology at Tampa General Hospital. She is an attending physician in Gynecology at St. Joseph’s Women’s Hospital and has had a thriving women’s health practice in South Tampa for the past thirty years. Dr. Mechanik is a member of the prestigious South Atlantic OB/GYN Society and has been nominated by her peers as one of Tampa Metro’s Best Doctors® every year for the past fifteen years. Dr. Mechanik is a national speaker and trainer for LARC (long-acting reversible contraception) including Nexplannon device insertion and IUD insertions, such as Mirena and Paraguard. She speaks Spanish, French. After spending over 30 years practicing obstetrics and gynecology Dr. Valerie Mechanik is now using her time to focus solely on women’s gynecology, health, and wellness. She is interested in seeing patients for their first gynecologic visit, following them through the years, and giving her patients as comfortable and pleasant experience as possible. The American College of OB/GYN recommends the first gynecologic visit between 13-15 years old.
Dr. Mechanik is a national speaker and trainer for LARC (long-acting reversible contraception) including Nexplanon device insertion and IUD insertions, such as Mirena and Paraguard. She has personally inserted over 1000 contraceptive devices and has many years of experience, thus helping to ensure the safest, least painful, insertions available.
Her office offers complete gynecological care for women of all ages- from adolescence to menopause and every stage in between. This is by far the most efficient doctor’s office I have ever visited, all without compromising the quality of care provided. The ability to schedule appointments online is so helpful. Wait time was less than 5 minutes after finishing the paperwork. Dr. Mechanik started the visit with a one-on-one so that any issues were discussed beforehand. Finally, the actual examination was quick and comfortable. I like that the office will call with results whether they were positive or negative. Questions I had concerning insurance were researched and the office called me back with an answer within an hour. Finally, Dr. Mechanik’s emphasis for inclusion and creation of a safe space cannot be overlooked. I was shocked by how much I enjoyed this visit (in a good way!!)!

I waited over an hour to be seen just to be rushed through history in which she talks way to fast to understand. Told her one problem and she was quick to she can’t must refer to specialist. Was quick to change my birth control. Exam was maybe two minutes rushed of her time to quickly nonchalantly tell me I have a cyst she wants to ultrasound then run out the room. No explanation of what she was doing for what ect. Unimpressed.

The waiting room was very comfortable and made you feel like you weren’t at a doctors office. This helps to ease any anxiety when going into your appointment. I loved that the doctor spent time with me individually in her office talking about what was going on before heading into an exam room. I am surprised at how many positive reviews were written about Dr Mechanik. Maybe I had a one off experience? The wait time was an hour which was frustrating but I understood. When I did get to Dr Mechanik’s office she seemed rushed. She said she had a few “complicated” appointments before and that caused the wait time. I get that but then felt I was not given the same level of time and attention (especially as a new patient). The conversation made me feel worse instead of better. I felt as if she was template matching instead of making personalized recommendations. I chalked it up to running behind and we moved on to the exam. Again, it felt rushed and uncomfortable. It was such a bad first impression I ended up finding a different gynecologist after this visit. Maybe I caught her on a bad day? Maybe she is overbooking? She didn’t seem like a bad person, but not the doctor for me.

The waiting area and patient rooms were clean and well maintained. I waited probably 10 minutes, due to filling out new patient papers. Valerie was nice and professional when I sat down in her office to go over my medical history. She offered valuable advice and really listened to me. It was a welcoming experience that put me at ease. My yearly check up took less than 15 minutes. I was in & out. From now on, I will be coming here for her services.
