Utter charlatan. The office is open, first of all. Treatment occurs in a big main room, within view of other patients, receptionist, etc. Glass cases display vitamins, etc. The kind of things you'd see hawked by a quack like Dr. Oz as a 'miracle drug.' Not exactly what you expect from a doctor.
I went in for back pain. I'd been to a chiropractor before so I didn't expect to be surprised. The receptionist insisted I pay for x-rays because 'some insurances don't cover it.' I had checked in advance and said "My insurance covers it." We literally went back and forth like this for a minute. She called to the doctor (literally just raised her voice so he could hear her, as he was working on a patient 3 feet away) who told her that I couldn't be seen unless I paid for x-rays upfront. Just wanting to get on with it, I gave her a credit card with the assurance they'd submit it to the insurance and I'd be reimbursed. You'll be shocked to learn I wasn't (and when I called the insurance company, he said 'he'd never heard of anything like that before.")
X-rays done, he shows me them, gives me an adjustment, then outlines a whole 'treatment plan' that involves thrice a week visits (one of them is a 'nutrition consultation' - why a chiropractor is doing that is beyond me).
The second visit, he tells me he doesn't take my insurance! First of all, he's listed as accepting it on ZocDoc (who were very solicitous when I informed them of this discrepancy). Second, I gave my insurance card to receptionist on the first visit. How they didn't me THE SECOND they saw it is insane. Totally misled, I'm sitting there in a face-to-face sales meeting with this so-called doctor. He's outlining a whole agreement where they bill my insurance and they send me a check and I have to bring it to him or they could sue me etc etc. Just wanting to get out of there, I say 'sure sure' and leave.
After calling the insurance company to go over this and being told this is not standard practice, I could be charged anything by this man, and they'd have no obligation to pay, I called Dr. Adamo and said I won't be continuing with his treatment schedule.
I got two calls back: one from the receptionist who was polite but incredulous that I would've actually done research and seen that this was shady, and another from Adamo himself who said the insurance company 'lies to you to get them to see their doctors.' I told him it was a joke he didn't tell me he didn't accept my insurance. He insisted that I was being a puppet of the insurance company and I needed to be seen by a 'specialist' (what specialty he had beyond chiropractor is a mystery he never answered). After a few more stressful exchanges, I said I'd take my chances and hung up, completely blown away that this shady practice is taking advantage of the people of Bay Ridge, not like a doctor but like a snake oil salesman. Needless to say, stay away. Go to a doctor in Manhattan.

Dr. Adamo has improved my health dramatically. The unexpected side effect of Dr. Adamo is that my digestion has improved and I have not had any sinus or migraines.
