William M. Reiff, M.D. has practiced ophthalmology in Elgin, IL since 1978. He graduated from the University of Illinois Medical School in 1973 followed by an internship at Northwestern University. He completed his ophthalmology residency at the University of Wisconsin in 1977 and spent six months at the University of Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary researching the effect of vitamin therapy on corneal wound healing.
Dr. Reiff was the first surgeon in the Elgin area to perform refractive procedures to reduce patients' reliance on glasses. He was also the first in the area to perform no-stitch cataract removal, insert multi-focal intraocular lenses and perform cataract surgery using only numbing drops (no needle). After its approval in the United States, Reiff Eye Center began utilizing the excimer laser and is presently using the precision of the Visx S4 active tracking system with variable spot scanning to perform LASIK (Laser In-Situ Keratomileusis). Dr. Reiff is the first area ophthalmologist certified to perform surgery with the newly FDA approved Intraocular Contact Lens. LASIK, CUSTOM WAVEFRONT LASIK, LASEK and PRK are also performed at their state of the art ophthalmology facility at Randall Road and I-90.
Since Dr. Reiff has had LASIK himself he appreciates the concern and anxiety experienced by patients prior to laser vision correction. In his spare time, Dr. Reiff tries to keep up with his wife Dale, an avid athlete, and his always active daughters Lindsey, age 21, and Haley, age 18.
