Dr. Xavier Cortada is a kind and compassionate pediatrician treating patients in San Antonio since 1989. A graduate of the University of Buenos Aires, trained in Pediatrics in Springfield, Mass. in association with Harvard and Tufts Universities and has multiple Fellowships including Child Development at Brown University and Clinical Genetics at Washington University in St. Louis. He is a former Assistant Professor in Pediatrics at USF, Tampa and is Board Certified in Pediatrics and Clinical Genetics. Dr. Cortada is an experienced pediatrician who truly understands comprehensive pediatric care.

We were referred to Dr. Cortada by the hospital where I gave birth as he was the only pediatrician accepting our insurance. My son was a few days old when we met him and while he was polite, he was also extremely dismissive of any questions or thoughts we had.
At one point, he attempted to cut off my son's umbilical cord clamp with rusted scissors until he realized that not only would they not be able to cut through the plastic, but that he was sending my mom and I into a panic with every failed attempt that almost jabbed my infant. I left in tears and became even more frustrated when I found out I was stuck with him as a pediatrician until open enrollment.
Our next visit was not any better as it was time for our second round of vaccines... Dr. Cortada laid my son down on his back on the table and proceeded to have a nurse hold his legs and have me pin his arms down while he received his shots in his legs, screaming and hysterically crying. I would have thought this was simply normal procedure (my first child) but, my aunt is a nurse and when I told her how the shots were given, she was furious.
During this visit, I also overhead another mother who was very frustrated with him, arguing with him in the hallway about his overprescribing of the same antibiotics for her child's ear infections-all she was asking for was a different antibiotic than the last one prescribe and he was not only unprofessional in how he spoke to this mother, but very degrading telling her she "knew nothing." Interesting, when you consider that any pediatrician who has been in practice for a minute, is aware that you must switch antibiotics if the first round does not attack the infection due to resistance...
After switching at the first opportunity to a real pediatrician who actually cares about my son, us as a family, who makes certain not to traumatize my child by having me holding him with him facing me in a hug for shots, who actually listens to my concerns and gives me real, practical, trusted advice, I can say that Dr. Cortada was the worst doctor experience I have ever had and if you trust him with your child, you are quite brave indeed...

Dr. Cortada was very patient with ayden and I and my many questions. He congratulated me on my next pregnancy and is already to schedule my newborn's 3 day old visit and she isn't due till the end of July. Very nice guy and made my 1 year old smile. He administered the shots to his best ability because Ayden barely cried. Office staff are friendly as well.

I love Dr. Cortada he is the best Doctor ever. Very Patient, Knowledgeable and Informative. It is so comforting to know that when I leave the office I feel confident being a new mom. My favorite part of the visit is the information that you take away with you. Dr. Cortada gives you a packet with milestones and important information for almost every concern. My son is my life and I feel confident and secure in the information and care provided by Dr. Cortada. I would recommend him to everyone :)

He is an excellent pediatrician! My kids loved him and I have never seen them so excited about being at the doctors. He is very knowledgeable and has genuine care for children. I am so glad to have finally found a pediatrician I feel I can trust and that I know will give my children the care they need.

My son literaly cried to not leave the docs now what kid does that. We where there for his lil sister and my son has a different doc and mr.cortada treated him like his own. He has a great attitude and respect.

Dr. Cortada is very good with my children. They love coming to see him even when they are sick. He listens to your needs and finds the best solution to heal your children. He has been out doctor for 4 years and plan to stay until my kids are 18.
