Yumi Mendez-Ishizaki, MD chose to become an OB/GYN first and foremost for the meaningful, honest and long-term relationships she has the honor of building with her patients and their families. She has a special interest in family planning, hormone replacement therapy, high risk pregnancies, medical and surgical management of abnormal uterine bleeding, and minimally invasive surgery. As former chief of her resident class in a busy county hospital, she boasts experience in medical leadership, advocacy and team organization.
Dr. Mendez-Ishizaki was raised in Cuba and immigrated to Miami, Florida at the young age of 10. She is of both Japanese and Cuban heritage and a native Spanish speaker. She completed her medical training in Los Angeles, where she also met her fiancé, a pediatric emergency physician.
In her free time, Dr. Mendez-Ishizaki loves to cycle, travel to exciting outdoor destinations, and support local small cafes. She deeply enjoys spending time with family, exercising, and salsa dancing.
