The wait time was kinda long but I really appreciated Dr. Gentry taking the time to explain everything thoroughly so that I could understand what was going on and her explanations calmed my worries and fears. She is an Amazing doctor! I never had a Dr take the time to explain and show the answers to my concerns and she does seem really caring and wanted to make sure my worries were reassured. I have not received that from other OBGYNs. I had a lot of bad ones and she's one of the great ones. I want her as my Primary Obgyn now. Thank you Dr. Gentry!

Dr. Yvette Gentry received a B.S. in Genetics from the University of California at Berkeley and an M.D. from the University of Washington in Seattle. Dr. Gentry's Obstetrics and Gynecology specialty training was completed at the University of California at San Francisco (UCSF). She is Board-Certified and a Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology (FACOG).
Prior to embarking in private practice in 1995, Dr. Gentry conducted research evaluating certain perinatal infections and evaluation of chronic pelvic pain. She has been featured in the California Department of Public Health Anti-Second Hand Smoke campaign and the Healthy Families Campaigns encouraging low-income mothers to seek medical care for their families. A contributing expert to Family Digest Magazine, Dr. Gentry has been featured on a nationally syndicated health television program, as well as on local news (KTVU and KPIX) and the cable channel BET. Dr. Gentry was one of the 2 California doctors listed among America's Favorite OG/Gyns in Essence Magazine.
Dr. Gentry is a member of the Alameda-Contra Costa, California, National and Sinkler-Miller Medical Associations. In addition to her comprehensive OB/Gyn practice, she has particular interest in alternatives to hysterectomies, laparoscopic surgeries and fibroid management.

Dr. Gentry is fine. Her office staff is rude and office policies are horrendous. I had negative experiences multiple times with her office and witnessed incredibly insensitive treatment of another patient who was trying to check in for her appointment. I left this practice mid pregnancy because of how people, myself included, were being treated. Just awful.

Though I had a very long wait time during my first appointment at the office, during my second visit I was seen right away. So this leads me to believe that the lateness last time was simply the result of ensuring care for another patient. So just know that if you're left to wait, it's most likely for good reason.
I definitely made the right decision in seeing Dr. Gentry. She is extremely intelligent, professional, and has a great bedside manor. I was terrified about my procedure but Dr. Gentry was calm, clear, not awkward, and quick!
I must be critical of one aspect of my visit though. Perhaps because of the popularity of the office, I've found record keeping to be very unorganized. I've updated moving information etc online...but this information did not get passed along to the office staff to update my records..which ended up being a big problem for me. Hopefully they figure out this discrepancy soon.

I have been to Dr. Gentry before when she performed a hysterectomy on me. She gave me excellent care. And at that time she was training other surgeons to use robotic surgery.( I remember that she explained to me that I didn't need robotic surgery, which is used in complicated cases, and I was relieved to be told mine was not complicated.)
On today's visit she was her usual professional self. She explained my options very clearly and lost no time in trying out one option.
I was glad I had taken the initiative in seeking her out, instead of waiting for my GP to refer me.

She's amazing and a traditional doctor. This isn't a Kaiser 10 min. experience. She takes the time to discuss your concerns, addresses your needs, and is genuinely a caring, concerned, authentic person with a depth of knowledge about new research findings in the field of women's reproductive health. She's also skilled and brilliant surgeon.

1) I was moved to "room" within 15 minutes of my appointment time. It was great. The ladies at the reception area were very pleasant and friendly; and also alert for incoming patients who arrived. I thought Dr. Gentry was great. I was expecting to have to wait far longer than I did, so I grateful to get in and out in a reasonable timeframe. She listened and she was thorough in her suggestions and evaluation. I would have liked her to delve more into my family and health history to uncover issues I might not have thought impt to raise, but she did address my short list of questions very well. I am grateful.
The nurse or practitioner who took my vitals, however, was terrible!. She was obviously having a bad day because her mood was foul, she was curt, and visibly annoyed. I didn't think it was directed at me as the patient, but given this was my first visit, I was reluctant to ask her questions or do anything to be on the receiving end of her funk. Not sure what was going on, and we all have challenging days, but her inability to put on her game face/demeanor for the patient demonstrated a lack of professional maturity. When researching Dr. Gentry as a GYN, I noticed similar comments about the staff from others on independent reviews, so it might be an issue worth addressing. Overall, I am happy with my experience and would refer Dr. Gentry to others if asked.
