My name is Alfredo and I’m a licensed Mental Health Counselor Associate with Master’s Degrees in Family & Human Development from Arizona State University and Clinical Mental Health Counseling Northwest University. I provide services in English and Spanish and see individual clients of all ages (13+) as I work towards independent licensure under the supervision of Jerry Carmichael, LMHC.

I understand the healing process is a slow one and would feel honored to support you in the therapeutic process. I am caring, warm, and compassionate, but can also be direct when it is needed. My goal is to provide a safe and comfortable environment for you to express yourself. My style is to assist you in the exploration the areas that brought you to therapy (using CBT, DBT, ACT, motivational interviewing and other modalities) and openly discuss through a collaborative process how to bring resolution to some of the challenges in your life.
Prior to LightHeart, I worked at two community-based agencies as a mental health counselor for over 10 years and continue to be inspired and invigorated by my clients and their journeys. I have worked with children, adolescents, and adults using a variety of evidence-based modalities that focus on healing symptoms related to depression, anxiety, past trauma, relationships, and emotional issues with the goal of minimizing a client’s suffering and improving their overall functioning.
My counseling approach is client-oriented with a focus on family and individual success. I make use of strength-based and solution-focused techniques. I also look at the problem within the system perspective; remaining aware that an individual’s environment plays a significantly important role in their functioning. It is important to empower the individual to make positive choices despite other, often negative environmental influences.
