Ana Diaz is an accepting, creative, and direct clinician. She has been a counselor for several years working with college and graduate students, including non-traditional age and first-generation students. Ana works from a trauma-informed perspective and engages in LGBTQIA+ affirmative therapy. In addition, she works affirmatively with individuals in all expressions of romantic/sexual relationships. Ana’s therapeutic focus includes the cultural context of her clients’ diverse identities.
Ana has experience working with individuals of all ages focusing on a variety of concerns including trauma, depression, anxiety, relationship problems, identity exploration, addictive behaviors, sexual concerns, and managing personal and institutional barriers related to succeeding in Higher Ed. Along with using research-based interventions, she believes the counseling relationship is an important key to therapeutic success.
After graduating from NYU with a BA in psychology, Ana worked as a residential counselor at the Sonia Shankman Orthogenic School. During this time she completed an art therapy course at the Instituto Allende in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. She then took a six year detour working as a public librarian in the Little Village and McKinley Park neighborhoods, she returned to the mental health field and completed her MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Adler University. Since then she has trained and worked as a mental health counselor at the Truman City Colleges of Chicago, Harper College, and Western Illinois University. She has taught classes in Human Sexuality, Personal Health, and Personal Growth in Higher Ed.
