Psychologist
MT
Hi there, I'm Daniel! Greetings! My name is Dan Foster I earned my Bachelor’s degree from Willamette University, my Master’s from the California School of Professional Psychology, and my Doctorate in Psychology (PsyD) from Baylor University in 1980 I have worked as a Licensed Psychologist since 1982 I served as a Sergeant in the Army from 1969 to 1971 I practice Client Centered, Trauma Informed Therapy and prefer the IFS (Internal Family Systems) approach, working with clients from the perspective of their worldview, life experiences, and aspirations, rather than doing something "to them." I love working with folks through difficult life experiences My approach includes IFS (Internal Family Systems), CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), Client Centered Therapy, Existential Humanistic Approach, and Trauma- and Culturally-informed care I am bi-cultural, with roots in Northern Plains American Indian communities (Dakota, Lakota, Blackfeet, etc.) My focus is on adults of all ages, often with PTSD, veterans, combat veterans, American Indians, American Indian Traditional Practitioners, Christians (especially Evangelical Protestants and Catholics), individuals with major mental illness, special needs families and caretakers, and elite athletes My communication style is client-centered and client-focused I listen carefully and utilize the client’s experience to best understand challenges and solutions, past strategies, current supports, current limitations, and future aspirations I seek to create a relationally, spiritually, and emotionally safe space My journey to mental healthcare began after being injured while serving in the Army I recognized that our injuries were psychological as well as physical and saw similarities between many fellow service members and the communities where I was raised I began reading extensively, looking for help, and set the goal of becoming a psychologist to help others, my own relatives, and myself with problems of living.
