More about Dr. David Castro, LCSW, PhD

As a psychotherapist, my goal is to help you break free from painful patterns that may be holding you back. I take a compassionate, thoughtful approach to listening, creating a safe space where we can explore the unique experiences and challenges that contribute to your distress. I believe that everyone's struggles are shaped by their personal history, culture, and environment, and it's important to honor those factors as we work together. In many approaches to mental health, there's a focus on treating symptoms without considering the bigger picture of who you are and where you've come from. I see symptoms as a part of your unique story, and my job is to understand their deeper meanings and how they relate to your life experiences. What I offer is a space for you to explore why certain painful patterns or cycles keep repeating, and how we can work together to create new possibilities for change. I'll help you understand your internal world more clearly, which can bring insight and relief. I hold a PhD in Clinical Psychology from Adelphi University and a Master's in Social Work from New York University. Beyond my practice, I also teach and mentor in graduate programs for social work and psychology. I currently serve as Co-Director at the Manhattan Institute for Psychoanalysis as well as Director of the MIP Licensure Qualifying Program.

Excellent visit. David is attentive and listens in a way that is different than the other therapists I have been to. As someone who has seen many different therapists over the years, I would say that David has been the most helpful in giving me the space to explore difficult life decisions and situations. I highly recommend him.
