My name is Janice Bushong, I am a Licensed Professional counselor in the state of Missouri. I have a history of working in substance abuse, individual therapy, group therapy and couples therapy.
My approach
My most common approach to therapy is client centered approach and cognitive behavioral therapy. My theories are supporting the client in making their own choices and helping them identify the pros and cons of the choices.
My focus
Types of client I most typically work with are substance abuse, anxiety disorder, depression, anger management and bipolar disorder. I very much enjoy working with the addictive personality group of clients,
My communication style
I try to create a relaxed environment for the client asking them what they want to work on, I support my client in leading the session as the session is about them. I encourage client to focus on the here and now letting go of the past and moving forward with their lives to reach their goals.
My journey to mental healthcare
My journey in becoming a therapist was while I was in college I started out working toward a nursing degree, had some medical problems and one of my instructors that was a doctor told me to think about a degree in counseling. I very much enjoy the one on one in counseling and being able to not have to rush through a session.
My goals for you
I approach goal setting in the client identifying their personal goals and how they want the therapist to help them reach their goals. I support clients in exploring options for reaching their goals and set realistic goals so they will not be discouraged. I encourage short and long term goals that are reachable where clients can see the progress they are making.
My first session with you
First session will include completing the initial intake, develop treatment plan and gather data on psychosocial history learning about the situations and trauma client has been through. My goal is to learn and develop a plan on what client want to accomplish.
