Psychotherapist
VA
Are you struggling with emotional instability, depression, excessive anxiety, feeling frequently overwhelmed, or experiencing mood swings? I have counseled clients for over 25 years, and I can provide you with the necessary tools and coping skills to improve and manage your emotions. I also offer guidance to overcome issues that may interfere with setting and/or realizing your goals, or other issues that are "keeping you stuck" from moving forward with your life. My approach I primarily use Dialectical Behavior Therapy and integrate interpersonal therapy and psychodynamic therapy into individual treatment. I use DBT for clients who have difficulty regulating their emotions. However, DBT can be applied and is useful for many individuals. It teaches skills for emotion regulation, distress tolerance, mindfulness, and interpersonal effectiveness. I incorporate CBT because it is used broadly for clients to understand the dynamics and connection between a situation or event that occurs, thoughts and feelings about this situation, and our behavior or actions in response to our thoughts/feelings. I use interpersonal therapy for depression because it looks at the primary relationship in that person's life (spouse, partner, etc.) and focuses on improving this relationship. Thus, interpersonal therapy positively impacts the individual's mood and reduces depression. My focus As a therapist, my greatest strength is actively listening to my clients so I can genuinely understand their current distress and struggles. I want to know how their past has impacted them. I want to give my clients the tools to cope and manage their future effectively. I also want to help my clients develop or improve their resilience, which is a vital aspect of everyone's mental health. I specialize in bipolar disorder, anxiety, depression, OCD, and trauma. I help clients find a life worth living and learn how to change behaviors, emotions, and thoughts that cause chronic distress.
