Dr. Joseph Kunnel completed his dental education and then a Residency in Advanced General Dentistry and Masters degree in Biomaterials at Northwestern University Dental School in Chicago. He received his specialty training in Orthodontics at the University of Illinois and attained a Masters degree in Oral Biology. He concurrently pursued a PhD in Bone Biology at Northwestern University Medical School.
Dr. Kunnel is currently an assistant professor at Northwestern University Medical School in Chicago. He has taught at varying capacities at Northwestern University Dental School,Department of Orthodontics at Marquette University, Department of Orthodontics at the University of Illinois.
Dr Kunnel has been the recipient of several awards including the "Orhan C. Tuncay Teaching Fellowship Award” from the American Association of Orthodontists, the “Clinical Scientist Award” from the National Institute of Health, and the “Howard Hughes Award”. He has published several peer reviewed scientific papers and lectures at many national and international meetings.
Dr. Kunnel is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics and an active member of the American Association of Orthodontics, International Association of Dental Research, Chicago Dental Society, and American Dental Association.
Dr. Kunnel resides in Glenview, Illinois along with his wife Jessie and children, Theresa, Elizabeth and George. He continues his research in bone biology and likes reading and playing tennis in his spare time.
